The ACN 2012

by TBM » 05 Jan 2012 11:40

Should Fifa look at moving this?

Most of the "top" players play in Europe now and it means them having to leave their club for a month or so......i read today that Ivory Coast have rejected Man Citys request to have the Toure brothers available for Sundays FA Cup game (basically keeping them an extra day). Man City pay the players wages - why do they not have more of a say on when the player(s) go?

Anyway

Group A
Equatorial Guinea
Libya
Senegal
Zambia

Group B
Côte d'Ivoire
Sudan
Burkina Faso
Angola

Group C
Gabon
Niger
Morocco
Tunisia

Group D
Ghana
Botswana
Mali
Guinea

Kicks off 21st January

TBM Should Fifa look at moving this?

No. It is about Africa, not Europe. Clubs know about this tournament when they sign African players

The only time they'd [the African federation not FIFA] look at moving it would be when they start getting a number of their high profile players retiring from international football because the clash was effecting their club careers.

I can't see that happening.

anyway the tournament itself is wide open for CdI or Ghana to win. Morocco have a good chance providing they don't lose the head against Tunisia in the group game

This.
It is precisely because of this first post and the attitude that English football is the only one that counts that FIFA and the member countries don't like us and why, despite wheeling out as many celebrities as we could, other countries decided to give us just the one vote for the World Cup.

I think all the bungs from Russia and Qatar affected the process more than TBM's opinion on the ACN

'greed that teams shouldn't bitch about africans going off to play in this

Didn't Nigeria ban themselves or something stupid after doing so poorly in South Africa?

Mostly all the other teams in Europe are losing their players too you know.........

But anyway, what if a club refuses to let their player leave? (can they legally do this?)

It's in the FIFA rulebook that clubs can't withhold players, I can't find the punishment at the moment but I can't imagine it's a slap on the wrist

Nigeria came second in their group to Guinea, Cameroon second to Senegal. No South Africa either, second to Niger in their group - Egypt came bottom of the same group. Algeria also failed to qualify.

It really is wide open - those five teams have won 12 of the last 14 tournaments, back to 1982.

Niger, Equatorial Guinea and Botswana in their first ACN.

Will the BBC be covering this again?

Will they maintain their policy of thinking being black makes you knowledgeable about African football, even if you grew up in Yorkshire and have never been nearer Africa than Magaluf?
