Bandini Whitehead was shit.

You couldn't of been following Reading back then, he was the best keeper we had had in ages. His performance at swindon one tuesday night was match winning. Made 1/2 mistakes like oxford but generally by most smart reading fans is considered one of the best players we had while at his peak.

No way. He lacked the essential attribute that goalkeepers need - he didn't inspire confidence. He was adequate in a tier 3 team, nowhere near good enough for a good team in tier 2.

Jon_rfc Ipswich fans are not happy.....

Think they will be pleasantly surprised!

There just sh*t anyway.

This is the same club that wanted Roy Keane out and thought Paul Jewell would be the answer to there problems. Living in the shadow of Norwich is saying something

Why have we loaned him out to this waste of space team anyway? They have the worst defence in the league so how is it going to help him?

He was average in the championship and didn't last long because we upgraded but he was by no means " shit", every season prior to that he was a consistently good performer.

He wasn't good enough for us. Every keeper we've had since then has been much better.

Moving those goalposts you said he was "shit", like any club that progresses you need to progress the quality of your playing personnel, that was the case for us and whitehead didn't have age on his side. " Every keeper" being feds and hahnemann....yes.

Whitehead was fine, until he let a long range hopeful shot slip through his hands and into the goal at home to Peterborough which cost us the 3 points that meant we had to get a draw away at Brentford to secure promotion.

After that, his confidence just seemed to go, and he was never the same again.

No moving. He was shit. Not sure why you wouldn't include McCarthy or Ashdown when considering the quality of post-Whitehead keepers.

Consdering both have practically never played for us...you are also missing out graham stack.

The fact you think he was "shit" says it all, I no longer wish to debate further. Have a good afternoon.

There was also that time in the pretty entertaining match against Oxford where IIRC, he managed to keep the ball in play possibly from a back pass, but not himself, leaving it nice and clear for some Oxford striker to nip and poke home unchallenged from a yard

He certainly was good enough for us at the time and in no way was he 'shit'!

Delighted that McCarthy has been signed up long term but if Federici is still here next season, I expect both to be challenging for the No1 spot on EQUAL terms. This has not been the case so far.

Er not exactly IIRC. His mistake gave Peterborough the lead in a game that until then was 0-0. We later came back into it to draw 2-2. Not sure how that cost us 3 points.

And even if we had won that game we would still have needed at least to draw at Brentford for promotion. If we'd lost they would have overtaken us.

Otherwise, carry on.

Should have been a party after Peterborough. Was already the case that a new keeper was on the way in, though I wish others that heard the conversation could now confirm as my memory does not recall exact facts.
