if Equatorial Guinea don't make it through the group stages I'll be mildly surprised (unless they're truly woeful of course).

only country in Africa where Spanish is the colonial language of course. suspect the teams based in gabon are going to enjoy this tournament a bit more

cmonurz Nigeria came second in their group to Guinea, Cameroon second to Senegal. No South Africa either, second to Niger in their group - Egypt came bottom of the same group. Algeria also failed to qualify.

It really is wide open - those five teams have won 12 of the last 14 tournaments, back to 1982.

Niger, Equatorial Guinea and Botswana in their first ACN.

Blimey. Be interesting to see if it's the other teams getting better or the more traditional decent African sides getting worse.

Burkina Faso have a 16 year old from Chelsea in their squad. He was born in September 1995 if that makes anyone feel old. It would be good to see him up against Ivory Coast with Tiote and Toure in their midfield

when Uganda played Niger in an AFCON warm-up a few years ago the Ugandan papers were full of "Where is Niger? what do you call them? are they little black chaps from the desert? let's call them nig*gers" and so on. was quite a lol amount of racism actually.

City socialites Esther Akankwasa and Nusrah are said to be on the verge of a bitter rift. The two best friends' forever (BFF) pals are rumoured not to be on talking terms after apparently squabbling over a dude.

According to sources, each wanted the yet to be identified loaded guy for themselves. A source added; "It is the reason they have rarely stepped out or been see together of late. They had an ugly bust up."

In fact snoops have reliably revealed that both sex oozing chics have enlisted new pals. Esther has a new girlfriend pal while Nusrah is these days seen moving with a 'girly-looking' young guy."

The two friends used to paint the city red with their sexiness moving from party to another skimpily dressed in their attire. They had reached an extent of looking like inseparable twins - until recently when we started seeing each chic alone.

Over to you both; what's the truth!

Will Jimmy Kebe be off on his travels because of Mali's participation?

Sorry in advance if this was already covered elsewhere.

Standard of African Football is going on leaps and bounds if even Kebe can't get a game for Mali.

What's brilliant is that they are moving the ACN to odd years after this tournament, so every other one doesn't clash with a world cup year, but rather than wait til 2015 for the next one, they're having another one next year in South Africa :) Probably just to p*ss off all big European clubs!

I think Ivory Coast will win.
I'm supporting Zambia.

Morocco v Tunisa has been much better since Morocco pulled it back to 1-2 and the tackles have started to fly in.
