Playing without boots?

by Jackson Corner » 09 Mar 2012 01:15

Watching the United game Bilbao were awarded a free kick when Nani passed the ball after his boot had come off? Is this a new rule? How can it be an advantage? I remember Gazza scoring a goal for Spurs once after his boot had come off.

Rooney was penalised in the Euro's years ago when he lost a boot getting injured
So it's not new but I confess I have no idea what offence they are committing.

Top flight players wear boots like i wear trainers. When their boots fall off they just slide them back on.

I lace my boots right up nice and tight.

From the BBC's interview with Alex Ferguson:

But the Scot complained De Marcos's goal should have been ruled out for offside and felt German referee Florian Meyer made an error awarding a free-kick against Patrice Evra for kicking the ball without his boot on in the run-up to the third.

"The referee said to the players that you can't play without a boot," added Ferguson.

"The real rule is you can but when the play is stopped you have to go off the field.

"It seems a bit bizarre as he only passed it about three feet. It was a bit unfortunate."

Some sports reporter on R5 this morning said he looked into it and the ref got it spot on

Forget moaning about the boot and ask why two centre backs went for the same ball and why Repeal just stood there after another fine save by DeGea, who has been our best player over the last month

Wasn't it Evra?
I know they are both black but with all the publicity surrounding Evra recently I would have thought that you might be able to tell one black player from the other?
Nani is the one who dives and Evra is the one who always complains.
I thought Bilbao outplayed Man Utd and it is looking more and more like a trophy-less season for them-shame.
More worrying from an England perspective was how poor once again Smalling,Jones and Young were as well as Rooney with his passing which last night was abysmal.

Will Fabio ever get another game?

I agree with the dog that the 3rd goal came about because of the 2 defenders going for the same ball rather than a free-kick being surprisingly given.

Lol @ Ferguson who after all those years in the game doesn't know the rules.

I also agree with the dog that De Gea was excellent and (as posted when he first signed) the player has a great future ahead of him in the game.

You'll see on the Chelsea topic that I liked the idea of Mourinho going to Old Trafford-all the more reason to dislike the less-than-mighty reds from Salford.

Yeah 'greed. I thought De Gea had been a bit slow to get up for third but on the replay i realised he hadn't, it was an optical illusion created by the fact Rafael was stood around like a fooking spastic whilst matey snuck in and scored.

Cardiff away this season one of their centre backs played about 90 seconds with only one boot on. Surely we should have had a penalty?!
