Alan Partridge Picking the best XI is bloody tough.

Gone for

Schmeichel

G Neville
Bruce
Adams
A Cole

Beckham
Le tissier
Scholes
Giggs

Shearer
Cantona

but you could make a case for a completely different XI to be honest. Strikers, centre midfielders are a nightmare to pick.

I started off being contrary and then got a little more serious.

Friedal
Dixon
Campbell
Vidic
Harte
Ronaldo
Le Tissier
Vieira
Giggs
Cantona
Henry

No Shearer?

Surely Shearer & Henry up top?! Has to be!

Tough call admittedly. But Cantona was different class

Certainly was, it's all tiny margins, but I'd say it's a choice of Shearer or Henry, Cantona or Bergkamp... saying that the other choices aren't exactly shit.

All time highest PL scorer has to be in the first 11. (in my humble opinion).

I did my team and it had 9 United players in so if I posted it you’d all think it was biased. which Im not :-)

So instead I’ve done my United 11 v rest of Prem 11. Would be a cracking game this one.   Schmeichel
Neville – Stam – Vidic – Irwin
Ronaldo – Keane – Scholes – Giggs
Cantona – Rooney
Van Der Sar, Evra, Ferdinand, Carrick, Beckham, Van Nistelrooy, Solskjaer

Seaman
Dixon – Adams – Campbell – A Cole
Pires – Vieira – Gerrard – Overmars
Henry – Shearer
Friedel, Winterburn, Desailly, Fabregas, Le Tissier, Zola, Bergkamp

Lots if players such as Robson who would be a shoe in if the Prem started 5 years earlier and Silva who could well make his way into the side over coming years. Andy Cole, Fowler, Les Ferdinand and Owen unlucky to not even get a mention. Reply ▼   Delete   More ▼

Silver Fox Doesn't the whole world agree that the Liverpool v Newcastle 4-3 is the best prem game ever and the next best is errrr the other one?

It has to be this one without a doubt - only a mentalist would disagree.

Maguire Craig Gordon's save, fooking hell, not seen that before.

Jaaskelainen for me.....superb double stop

Any of the Schmeichel saves are in for the shout, but Gordon's is the best. Very similar to Banks' save against Pele.

Kusczak against Wigan shouldn't be in there; you can't help but think he didn't know too much about it - standard jump across the goal, spread yourself and hope for the best.

That United team TMD posted looked unstoppable! I suppose it's because they've all played together and i'm overstating it a bit - in talent terms the other team is as good.

Out of interest, who were the two changes? Because swap Ashley Cole for Irwin and Shearer for Rooney, and that's pretty much the Prem team that I'd go for.

Alan Partridge Only because he was captain and pretty much permanent regular for Man United when I watched them dominate the league in the early 90s. He isn't the best player on the CB list but I found it hard to pick another one for longevity that matched Bruce and his contribution to the cause. Sol Campbell was probably my 2nd choice. I thought Jaap Stam was as good a centre back as I've seen but can you put him in for 1 or 2 seasons? Rio maybe, Carragher maybe. Like I said other than 1 or 2 you could name 9 others and it would be a valid side.

Dont think Bruce would be anywhere near my top 10 central defenders in the Prem, maybe not even top 20 though i cannot be arsed to write a list of 20 who would come before him. He never played a single England game for a reason.

I picked my team on influence at a club more than technical ability. I don't disagree that he isn't the best defender on that list.

Had to laugh at some of the pundits on Soccer Saturday choosing Gerrard in their XI.

Fack me, if there's any proof they need new people on the panel, it was this.
