Reports that Southampton are after him - and WBA pricing him at £3 million - excellent business by them, if true, didn't we sell him for £100,000? I hope we get a sell on fee!

That would be awfully generous of West Brom. I wonder if Swindon will also get a sell-on fee?

/facepalm

you really don't help yourself. We sold him to Swindon, swindon sold him to WBA so we already received the sell-on clause.

If true it makes it less likely that Long will be surplus to requirements. I suppose I am pleased about that.

Yes - although his next natural move is to join Sidwell at Chelsea.

Oh whatever! LOLz.

I was more  that we'd only sold him for £100k at the time, forgot it was Swindon.

The thing about Simon Cox is, we all knew he was good, and had fantastic potential. Unfortunately, he matured at the wrong time for us- he needed regular playing time, at a time when we were playing a league or so higher than he was ready for. It was much better for him to have a season or two with Swindon before his inevitable step up to the prem.

Personally I feel we are in much the same situation at the moment with Antonio. He needs to play every week to keep up his progress- if he comes back to us, we may not give him that.
Am I right in thinking he has a young family? If that is the case, I can see him being happy and settled in Sheffield- and playing every week in the Championship will really bring on his talent.
The hard part is the decision to loan him out for a year, bringing him back for our second season- with the last year on his contract. Or we let him go now, wish him well, in the knowledge that before long he will be lining up against us.
I will leave that decisions to those who know much better than I what will be best.

Yes to a young family.

Season long loan is the best option.

A) whole host of clubs would want him and pay him
B) every chance his value could rocket. Probably worth £750k now. Another excellent season would benefit us and is development back in our squad or sell for £3 million.

And if we get relegated, he would in theory be ready to step in for Kebe or McAnuff, at least one of whom you'd have to assume would need replacing.

I can't see it being of great benefit to Wednesday though.

Good call, Paul. News coming out of Sheffield that they've bid £750,000 for Antonio.

Actually I expect Swindon have a sell on fee. Which probably means we will also get another installment to our original sell on fee. So yes! Though 10% of 10% is small change!
