TBF there was nothing worse that standing up at the cinema when the National Anthem was played. I really couldn't wait to sit down to throw my malteesers at the roaring lion.

Don't be such a twat.....again and again and again.

LOL - coming from you!?

I am far from being a fan of the Irish and of course Liverpool historically was a Protestant club with great support from the British in Northern Ireland who presumably would have joined in with the National Anthem.
With only a proportion of tickets being sold to Liverpool fans I would suggest that there might have been some anti-Brits (there are plenty of them living in this country)within the ground from such places as Luton that could have been the guilty party as I have never before heard anything Anti-British from Liverpool fans before so why would they start now?

No, I used “loonies” in that context simply to avoid reuse of “activists”, local activists of whatever party tend to have only the most tenuous grip on reality in my experience.

As to why I applied the term to yourself; in citing anti-British types from Luton you are clearly referring to the Islamic extremists who attempt to disrupt military parades. Such people have an interest in football that is likely on a par with your interest in Islamic studies, but a huge hunger for publicity. Your suggestion that they would fork out for a cup game that they have no interest in, just to boo the national anthem and then not claim responsibility, is so far fetched as to be completely irrational.

Handsome Man No goal, by 1 mm.

Carroll looked great, Downing looked very good, Johnson looked close to fitness and Henderson looked ok, not £14 million but a premiership player. But two things were more striking for any England fan. Firstly, Spearing isn't good enough for he Championship tbh, and there have been so many young English players who have looked shit this year. Secondly apart from him, of the other English players, Gerrard was the most disappointing and yet Gerrard is going to get into the Euros squad unless Houghton is extremely brave. That's what's wrong with English football.

When did Ray Houghton become England manager?

And does Roy Hodgson know about this?

No. The view there seems to be that Liverpool fans have always done it, and that it's completely justified in a Liverpool v The Establisment on-going struggle.

Even The Liverpool Echo has chipped in with an article saying "Liverpool FC fans booing of national anthem were jeers of a city in tune with its right to rebellion"
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpoo ... z1uB4nC5KN

There does seem to be a determination to live up to that "Offended by everything, ashamed of nothing" stereotype. I had to laugh at claims that booing is fine because everyone is entitled to freely express an opinion. Tell that the Alan Davies.

Of course, anyone who disagrees with the booing must be a right-wing, Sun reading, BNP-supporting Xenophobe...
