Talk about step backwards. What happened to England trying to play younger players? Seems to me like the failed world cup squad with a couple of changes. There's so much wrong with this squad (Barry, Milner and Johnson for a start) I can't even be bothered to explain though. I doubt we'll get out the the group stages, and even if we do it will be down to luck, we haven't played decent football since Sven IMO. Give the kids a chance!

You can't just throw all the kids in though - they need the experienced players to help them bed in and adapt to International football. We have 6 young lads in the squad that have a decent future with England ahead of them, get them settled during this tournament and then start introducing more for the WC qualifiers.

Which kids would you have given a chance to?

Hart
Jones Terry Lescott Cole
Walcott Parker Barry Gerrard Young
Carroll

That would be my starting XI against France

Lob the long ball up to Carroll to either nod down to Gerrard or flicked to Walcott/Young

Apparently Carrick wasn't included because he told the FA a couple of months ago he wasn't interested in being involved as a squad player at this stage of his career!

Ian Royal
blindedbythelights

If that is genuinely him, what a twat. He can feck off and never play for England again.

Well, it's definitely him (I assume you mean Rio Ferdinand) I'm just not convinced he actually made the sign

It's an old picture of Ferdinand he did ages ago and someones been ever so clever and witty and changed the text.

I think it might even have been his twitter profile photo for a while when he was proving it was really him.

TBM Hart

Carroll

Lob the long ball up to Carroll to either nod down to Gerrard or flicked to Walcott/Young

Similar tactic worked well for Liverpool this year...

Hart
Johnson Terry Lescott Cole
Walcott Parker Gerrard Young
Welbeck Carroll

The Ox to come on for Young after 70 and run them ragged.

He's not very good at colouring the St. George's cross though is he!

Not really as Liverpool didn't realise Carroll could head the ball until the 2nd half of the Cup final - before then, they hardly ever put the ball in the air for him.

Not quite, read yesterday that Liverpool put in more crosses than any other team in the PL this season.

And same question to those criticising the squad. Who should we have picked instead?

So no Barry, Milner and Gerrard (say) – Cleverley, Britton and Dyer instead? Really?

Is that why Downing ended up with no assists this season?!

I would query the crossing, not the target man

I would have done over Wellbeck - but if you had Wellbeck/Sturridge/Carroll/Rooney, it'll mean no experience in the first two games......at least Defoe has been there and knows what to expect etc

Likewise, but you said they 'only realised Carroll could head it...', they've been lobbing it his way all season, just not very well.

It's just a game of football. If you've played in the Champions League then what's the difference?

Ability of player > how many times they're previously failed at an international tournament

Thomas Muller hadn't been to a major tournament before 2010 (when he was only 20) and he ended up with the golden boot. Same with Khedira, went to WC 2010 the same season as his international debut.
