England Goalkeepers

Seems strange that with Ruddy being injured they call up Jack Rutland, Birmingham City's reserve, who was on loan at League 2 Cheltenham, when you've got McCarthy available, who has played at a higher level with us and Leeds, and has played for the U-21's.

Must be a bit of a dissapointment for the lad.

Hodgson, sort it out.

Maybe he thinks Rutland is better.

I think Jack Butland is the regular under 21 keeper, so is probably 'next in line'. England managers have been let down by spoilt brats like Paul Robinson and Ben Foster's refusal to sit on the bench. Alex is probably a bit unlucky not to get a call instead, but I believe that Butland is going to be a top top keeper. Although he probably won't get anywhere the team this summer.

I've nto seen him play but if reports are to be believed he sounds to have a pretty similar temperament to Jo Hart so may as well get him in

As I've previously reported I had a chat with Ray Clemence at Wembley earlier this year and he agreed McCarthy was skillz but not ready to challenge Hart for 4 years.

Butland was pencilled in for the Olympic tournament, so this could open the way fro McCarthy there instead. He'd have a better chance of actually playing.

Butland is absolute quality. Going to be a Top 4 keeper, and England no 1 for years to come.

Why isn't he first choice at his Championshp team? Why has he been playing in a division above the Conference?

Not just McCarthy but what about Fielding at Derby, seems so strange to overlook 2 excellent keepers who have been part of the U21 set up and have vastly more experience at a higher level that a youngster still learning.

Presumably because the chances of the 3rd choice Goalie playing = 0, but they see Butland as the next big thing so want him to get some experience at a major tournament.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Stooper Butland is absolute quality. Going to be a Top 4 keeper, and England no 1 for years to come.

THe problem for him is that Hart is ahead of him and Hart has many years left yet in his career.

I posed a question about our 2nd choice keeper not being in the England squad.

This forum is so tiresome for categorising of posts.

Anyone would think it was serious and stuff, but no, it's just a forum, for killing time whilst at work.

Why people have to drag seriousness, regimented rules and pedantry into their social life i will never know.
