Mr Angry Mmmm - which country is Messi representing in the Euro's again??

I'm sure his 72 goals last season (50 in La Liga) may have had something to do with Barcelona's success in the, er, Spanish Cup (a tournament on a par with the Johnstons Paint Trophy)

Also, lets not forget that you have to be reasonably good to play for teams like Barcelona & Real Madrid; if you are average and kanckered, I would say that it stands to reason that you are going to play less well than a player who is brilliant and slightly less knackered.

If England were serious about having a half decent crack at major championships, then the Premier League needs to be cut to 16 clubs, and a mid winter break instigated (with key players not allowed to be taken by their clubs for money spinning friendlies across the world in the break).

What utter balls

southbank1871 Never really understood why people think a mid season break would work in this country. It's very likely that the weather during the break would be quite mild and then when the season started up again, we'd be hit with two weeks of snow and ice. It's just not feasible.

I think the other factor is that clubs will just see the break as a chance to go to Asia or North America and make some money from guest appearances and exhibition matches.

The Premier League was supposed to be eventually reduced to 18, but guess what? The PL clubs voted against it. Turkeys voting for Christmas and all that.

Fewer games might make us a bit less fatigued in tournaments, but wouldn't do that much to aid player ability, which is what is lacking at the moment.

Please let Portugal win. Anything to see the duller than dull Spanish get knocked out

Really looking forward to seeing Xavi's 200 5 yard sideways passes tonight

I'm backing Spain just because of the vocal gymnastics Chinese commentators have to go through each time Xavi or Xabi Alonso touch the ball.

Fewer games? What's that you say? 4 games less to play?

Christ, I've said it before, wouldn't it be better to reduce the number of teams in the Champions League and UEFA Cup. But no, that's the bigger cash cow rather than the lesser teams in the bottom rungs of the Premier League.

And while I'm there, reduce the number of internationals too, especially friendlies.

'greed. They should sit back in their own half, concede loads of possesion and lump it up to the big man in the hope he'll win a set piece that they can score from. That's entertainment!

Bright first 20 but it's petered out a bit. Portugal have had the better chances but just not taken them. I'm certain that it'll be settled in 90mins.

You watching highlights from a previous tournament or something? Better chances?

Having to watch it on mute because of Keown. There are some dreadful co-commentators around at the moment but he has to be up there with the very worst.

Yeah, thinking back, Ronaldo had one, Casillas flapped at a corner while Iniesta and Arbeloa both blazed over.

House hunting, so perhaps I've missed bits!

Anyway, Keown is doing my absolute fruit in. So dull and just saying stuff for effect.

Bumblebee had premonition as Portugal are dominating this.

Ronaldo wastes about the best opportunity of the night. Not often you'll catch Spain 4 on 2

Gray Lineker actually made a sensible comment for once! "That was a load of rubbish, wasn't it?"

Ideal 'greed, what a load of rubbish the commentators are coming out with..

One Spanish player after another tumbling and pretending they are mortally wounded, but if Nani is legitimately fouled they keep saying "he made a meal of it", and "this is what makes people lose respect for Pepe" etc..
Obviously they are in love with Spain, but what the hell, please do try and control yourself, you are commentating on tv you scumbags..

How much money has the commentator had on Portugal?
The whole game has been commentated on from a Portugal perspective.
Portugal look as though they are tiring.
