Worst Football League Ground in the Country?

by LWJ » 06 Sep 2012 13:48

Out of the 92 league Football League clubs, what is the worst ground and why? And what has been your worst experience and why?

Personally the last game of the season at The Ricoh Arena in 2010? It was windy, the atmosphere was shocking and the stewards acted like complete cpunts taking my plastic baton off me (went dressed as a old style police officer).

Other candidates are obviously Forest every time we go there, but even more so when it was that thriller in the baking sun, it was a gr8 day out, ruined by over the top stewarding yet again.

There are bound to be more, but can't think of them for now.

Title of thread is misleading to what you are actually asking for!!

Worst ground - Chesterfield (old) mainly because of the "stepping over" of toilet flows.
Worst experience - Stoke - windy, rattling around, horrible fans.

Elland Road has to be there for away fans - no leg room, excessive prices and utterly pcuntish stewards.

But again, what do we mean by "worst"?

Would agree that it's excessive to what you get, but the one time I've been there I had a really enjoyable time, despite us playing out a boring 0-0. There was a couple of stewards who seemed to be pcuntish but the guy stood next to us, was decent.

Was that behind the goal or at the side? The attitude to away fans has really changed with the move of them.

Kenilworth Road (if Conference counts). Just a fu cking mess. That would have been second if Somerton Park was still around. Wales's largest open-air toilet.

Any of the out of town, B&Q boxes that have been thrown up over the past 20 years. And, yes, I include the Madejski in that.

+1 to that. Even a broken down ramshackle wreck like Luton has some identifying features and some character (like walking out through someone's house) and some soul.

A place where you can only tell where you are because of the colour of the seats and the sponsors name doesn't.

Nothing really compares these days to the some of the pre Hillborough dumps. Home Park was particularly grim, open terrace, horizontal rain and toilets with no walls overlooking a public park..

Bloomfield Rd was also a dump in the 90's, and who can forget the Manor.

Of grounds that have fundamentally not changed in the past 10 years, I'd say either:

Boundary Park - on top of a hill on the edge of Saddleworth Moor - the coldest place in earth, even in summer.

or

Elland Rd - the only ground I've ever encountered trouble from knuckle draggers EVERY time I've been there.

Hartlepool - it's been a while obvs, but it only had three sides, and not in a good way, although I recall they employed a lad to collect the ball when it went into the wasteground, and he fell over / down holes a couple of times.

Northampton's old ground was ridiculous, and of all of the flat packs, theirs was the most welcomed - by me at least.

Now - St Andrews, a dangerous death-pit converted into a charmless shit-hole, infested with cunts watching a dull team playing shit football - JUST FUCK OFF

Another person reminiscing. I'm sorry but Luton is an absolute dump of a ground. Can't wait for the identifying features part! Saying that I rather follow Luton rather than Darlington..it's the saddest ground in England.

By identifying features, they mean the greenhouses down one side that constitute the corporate facilities and wasn't the main stand bought from Kempton Park racecourse or somewhere similar?

Whilst there is some small charm to be had by entering the away end via a fire escape out of someone's kitchen, the seating was designed and installed by a monobuttocked double lower leg amputee. Add to that, Luton is an utterly charmess shithole.

What part of "broken down ramshackle wreck" suggests that I think Luton isn't a dump of a ground?

What part of "like walking out through someone's house" isn't an identifying feature of it? Did you actually read my post?

But in my book a ground that's unique, even one that's falling down, is far more interesting than a pristine new ground that looks exactly the same as all the other new grounds.
