Platypuss As an other datapoint, Chelsea won the EC because they could defend, not because they were any good at attacking.

Also 2007-08 in the Prem ( :( ) - us and Birmingham scored the most goals out of the bottom 7. We both went down.

Success is built on a strong defence.

As I said, I'm talking specifically about the Prem. And there is a world of difference between a knockout compition and a 38 game league.

Platypus is right though, success is built on a strong defence.

Think back over the last 20 years or so and look at the defence of all the best teams.

I know that's not quite the point you were making IR, and you do need to score goals to stay up, but keeping them out is probably more important as a strong defence gives you the confidence to attack more freely and means those goals you do score will count more than those you score in a high scoring loss.

And my point about 2007/08?

Uhm no, we've conceded 5.

Erm no we've played 3 games in all competitions and conceded 7.

Ideal Oh, so you're expanding now, you want to include all competitions not just league matches?
Because I didn't think cup matches had any effect on whether or not you got relegated.

I'm not expanding anything. You didn't mention anything about League or relegation in the post I quoted.

It's our first choice team/defence in all 3 games isn't it? I don't think it's really expanding it to suggest that if Rodgers has defensive problems at Liverpool then so do we although drawing conclusions so early in the season is a bit daft anyway.

If you insist on sticking to simply the league then we're still conceding at a faster rate than them anyway.

Whichever way you wanna slice it though; LOLing at Rodgers current defensive record when taking into consideration our current one is a bit like a kid who's just shat himself pointing and laughing at a kid who's just pissed himself.

Ideal yYou must have missed this part of the discussion then, or maybe it didn't suit you?

And you must have missed the part where I said IN YOUR POST.

And the bit where I said we're conceding at a faster rate in the league than them.

You are aware we've only played 2 league games as opposed their 3.

Its too early to make judgements although that doesn't stop you obviously but the fact remains that our first choice defence (the one that McD obviously thinks is our best one for the league) has conceded the same goals as Liverpool's who you seem so keen to ridicule.

Would you not concede that at the very least it puts us on an equally shaky defensive footing ?

You can't have failed to notice Ideal going to town on Liverpool so far this season. If they were top of the league he'd be ranting something about Brendan Rodgers and black women. Just leave him to it.

So, let me get this straight, defence is important in football?
