Alexander Litvinenko
Dave the rave
Alexander Litvinenko When I posted it I nearly added a PS that as the majority of old grounds were Leitch designed or in that image, then there was a uniformity there, although things like different gables and the tendency to build and extend stands at different times did lead to diversity and take away for the standard design.

But with a concrete, all-round bowl there are fewer development options available. All you can really do it decorate it a bit, like Leicester have done with the hangings from the roof showing past players - I love those!

Or put new stands/roofs in etc.

Fair enough. I wasn't having a dig at all. And if I was then it was towards people who think that history/grounds etc are somehow inherited rather than built up over years.

We had our Elm Park and, yes, I miss it but would I trade that for what we've built over the last 13 years? No way. In x years time we'll be able to say "I was there when Grant Brebner scored the first goal here". By that time the ground may have been developed into something truly unique.

Agreed. I just wish we'd do something to make the ground more distinctively "ours" (like the hangings at Leicester). At the moment it's a faceless dual-use sports ground rather than a football ground that belongs to one club.

Leicester couldn't be a more boring example. Terribly dull stadium. Ours has more character than that.

I think some hangings would definitely spice up the matchday experience.

A picture of Rougier hanging from the roof would definitely go a long way to improving the stadiums soul

The thing about the Madstad et al is the better sight lines of the game & facilities for us all but especially disabled supporters and kids.
A big problem with the old grounds is the shit seats that they've shoehorned into stands that were not designed for them, so everyone stands anyway, so should bring back the terracing.

To improve my matchday experience, think the Madstad would be improved if y24-26 was made terracing & upper tier of South (above the entrances)
but will never happen. :|

I'd prefer to see the away end roof removed, so they get wet when it rains, like the old days

No, drill holes in the roof, giving them a false sense of security until big dollops pour onto their heads!

Should be said that Madejski Stadium was state of the art when it was built and it only looks like lots of other stadiums now because they were built subsequently.

State of the art on a budget mind. The Reebok Stadium was supposedly the main reference point for the Mad Stad's architects, but there wasn't the money to match Bolton's more flamboyant steel work.

Agree with all the negativity about the Ricoh Arena. Something about the design isn't right.

IIRC - Huddersfield were one of the pioneers of new stadia - still looks good today.

The McAlpGalpinepharm Stadium looks very good by if you ever been in it when it's raining, you will know that due to Huddersfiewld's unique climate and geography, the roof is purely decorative and serves absolutely no functional purpose. As for the Reebok, from the inside it looks half finished.

I watched the first ever game there (think they lost 4-1 at home to Southend in the days of Ricky Otto and Jason Lee) and thought it was a bit of a pony stadium at the time.

I quite like it in a way - steep stands and bleak, should make for a pretty intimidating place if Millwall were ever good and could do more than half-fill it

The Kassam Stadium (is it still called that?) is a distgusting stadium.

Hardly, it just hasn't got a fourth stand. This did make me laugh though:

The car park at the stadium is limited as it is shared with the local Vue cinema and other attractions but a nearby overflow car park is ready to compensate for busier times.
