I have a couple of neutrals who've got season tickets next to me in the North

Preferred it when the couple who didn't have s/tickets but still came most weeks for the last two years sat there.

TBH What did you expect? 15,000 in the Chamionship 24,000 in the Prem. These people aren't Reading fans. When you watch the game on Sky you can see people leaping to there feat when Spurs score in the North and South stand. If it was me I would chuck them out and have there cards taken away. But the club would rather take the money.

A surprisingly high number of people go to football matches because they enjoy going to football matches, and don't necessarily "support" either of the teams playing. I've seen it estimated at 20-25% of a typical crowd.

Varies by club, but living close to Fulham (who must have a very high proportion of neutrals) I can believe it.

Surely it's an inevitable consequence of rising ticket prices that a higher number of people in the ground won't be there every week.

I embrace it, it annoys me when people take exception to it. People are paying money to come and watch Reading, and hopefully enjoying the experience - why should that be irksome?

Plus, if you play the long term game, they may become Royals with time. Everyone has to start somewhere, and not everyone can be a child of a Royals supporting Dad

Quite, but there is a mindset amongst some that everyone is there to "support"their team - and that everyone in the home areas *must* by definition be a home team supporter.

It'd be lovely if there could ever be a day when fans are not segreg8d but it won't happen in my lifetime.

A few games at Doncaster over the past few seasons have been non-segregated.

I do agree that it is slightly annoying to see Spurs fans jumping up to celebrate Defoe's opener in the North stand right behind the goal though. This is where a neutrals section would become beneficial, as it would mean that there would be just Reading fans in the Reading end.

I disagree though Green. I think one of football's attractions is the tribal nature that remains. Not the violent way obviously, but the "them and us" mentality that is generated by segregation does add to the occasion

well I don't claim to be a true Reading fan , but being disabled I can't get up to West Ham, but I have been going regularly to home games now since 2006 and am now a season ticket holder, I regularly talk to a guy who sits a few seats down from me in the disabled section in the north stand and we both get really annoyed how these extra 4 or 5,000 extra fans sudenly started turning up again towards the last few home games. [it was the same the previous season when we reached the play-offs and not surprisingly they very quickly dissapeared again come the first home game of last season. But unfortunately all clubs have these fans who only show up for the big games in the championship like against West Ham or the premiership but can't be bothered any other time.

I have occasionally seen stewards in the north stand chuck out fans of the away team but it doesn't happen very often.

Valid point, but we haven't averaged as little as 15k for a long time!

Oh and almost every Premier League club has fairweather and neutrals at home every week. We're no different!

If people draw attention to themselves, celebrate gaols and antagonise the home supporters they are likely to be thrown out and rightly so. If they don't, then good luck to them - and I speak as someone who sat on his hands in the home corner at St Mary's in April!

Joke? Many of us have done it at other grounds when we have a big away game and we sell out.

I thought there was a club policy on fans wearing oposition colours in the home section? I know Swansea won't allow people if they are wearing other clubs shirts.

I have done it myself but I wouldn't wear a shirt or stand if Reading scored.
