Maguire I've been to Union v Dresden which was very heavily policed. No alcohol at the game for fears of trouble but we did get a shout out over the tannoy which was nice.

35 degree heat and they hosed down the crowds on the terraces at half time which was pleasant although a little reminiscent of Schindler's List.

Dresden playing against any East German team, St Pauli or Dortmund will have a massive police presence. They're one of the best re support in Western Europe IMO and have a lot of the aggro that goes with that. They regularly get away bans from the German FA (and just turn up en masse in the home end) or home bans (and turn up outside the ground) pitch invasions, storming grounds, the lot.

I was also told that Hansa Rostock usually kick up a stink when they visit the Millerntor. I have to say that the Nordbank Arena was the best new generation stadium that i've visited, it seemed to have retained a proper football atmosphere. This was probably helped with a capacity 57,000 vs Dortmund. Only drawback is having to get the S-Bahn to the stadium only to find you then have to get a shuttle bus that takes you to the stadium proper.

Loop Meadow, Didcot Town

After that not sure, hopefully Maidenhead will get through and get another away draw at a ground I've yet to visit.

Yeah St Pauli Rostock is always a riot. Here's St Pauli storming the ground:

Going a bit nuts with rockets in outside the ground:

No Fixed Abode Cologne's ground is the only German Ground I've been to and it's gr8. Doesn't look much from the outside, but 2 tiered all the way around and a cracking atmosphere. Plus, lots of bars inside and outside the ground.

Planning on doing another German trip in the new year - perhaps Berlin or Dortmund.

Went to the old one before it was revamped for WC2006.

Looks like a non-league ground, with a Tesco built in the car park

Nah, I have to agree with NFA on this one...it's a cracking ground with a terrific atmosphere.

There's nothing fancy about it. It's not been designed to make some kind or architectural statement. It just been designed to be a great ground to watch football in, and it does it brilliantly. I've been to a fair number in Germany, and I do think it's the best.

It's also the only ground I've been to where the pre-match music really boosts the atmosphere, belting out Viva Colonia.

Same could be said of the Madejski - lacking in soul but good at what it was designed for.

Cologne's stadium isn't soulless or sterile though. It's hard to put your finger on it, but there's just something about the place that works, and really makes it feel like a "proper" ground

Agreed - aesthetically from the outside it doesn't look anything (I thought it looked like a factory) - but it really is a great ground, for view and atmosphere. Not only that, but the bars outside the stadium and in the wooded areas that you can see in some of the pictures really made it a great matchday experience.

Here's a pic I took outside.

+1

Same here.

And to answer the OP, I've got a full set of Prem grounds, so it'll depend on cup draws really

I went there in early 2006 when they were doing it up for the World Cup. The only other living member of my family to ever visit it is my Gran. At the closing ceremony of the 1936 Olympics. Saw Hitler in the flesh by all accounts.

In terms of German grounds I've been to Nurnberg's Easycredit Stadion, Stuttgart's Mercedes Benz Arena, Stuttgart Kicker's Gazi Stadion, the Allianz arena (on a tour), and Hoffenheim's (very odd, small town about the size of thatcham with a huge stadium built outside).
All cracking stadiums, German football > English football.

Actually, Germany as a whole >>>>>>>> England

Started brightly but struggled against the Russian left back brought on at half time, and at fault for several successful counter attacks. Also got dealt a career ending injury in added time.

One of the greatest sights in modern European football - Borussia Dortmund and their Signal Iduna Park's Sudtribune, 25,000 on a good old fashioned terrace. Well worth a visit.
