I don't think Jones' comments have to be defended. We've had a week where racism in football has been at the forefront, now paedo chanting by Leeds fans, and his keeper punched in the face. All in all he kept reasonably calm given the circumstances.

Can understand why he's upset but he won't get much public sympathy after that.

Though Beagrie was a bit off too. In Yorkshire derbies it's never just been 'banter', 30 years ago thousands would be having a big old scrap outside rather than watching the football. The fact that this incident has caused such an outrage is good because it means hooliganism is now considered to be a very real taboo. It also shows that incidents like these are extremely rare.

Sadly tonight the action of one moron will tarnish football again, but when you have 5,000 pissed up Leeds fans in Sheffield on a friday night it's just asking for trouble. I imagine there will be much worse going on in the streets tonight.
