Safe Standing - Another Step Forward

Probably the only issue that i disagree with the familys of the 96 this one. Ive always thought whether you stand or sit at a football match should be a matter of personal choice. I used to love standing on the old kop at Anfield and at away games around the country. The atmosphere is diluted these days. If you want to sing at the match then you knew were about on the terraces to stand. Now the people who want to create an atmosphere are dotted about everywhere. Ive even been asked to shush when i tried to join in with some singing. Asked to shush at the match ? To many stadiums are like librarys these days. I just hope if they do allow standing to come back, then the clubs bring in a decent price reduction for that area because it is such a joke how much going to the game costs these days.

Knew the germans did it just wasn't aware of exactly how. Interesting video to watch. If clubs can make it work financially they'll want it enough one day.

Most clubs in Germany just have normal terracing.

This system would get round the "rake" problem at the Madejski though, as even a steeper terrace would be safe with that many crush barriers. It would require a lot of work to put the extra step into each row, and I don't know if structurally the north stand, for example, would be safe if it had 6000 people jumping up and down rather than 4000.

Bristol City given planning permission for a 29,000 capacity stadium for Rugby and Football, including 3,152 safe standing rail seats.

There's been a lot of support in recent months for these rail seats from Premier League and Championship clubs. I think we are finally on the cusp of bringing standing back, albeit safely. The Police are still pushing back, warning it will mean less control of fans, but the clubs are now backing the rail seats in public.

Wow, I never thought that would ever get the go ahead.

I see someone in the comments section mentioned the lack of atmosphere in the modern game. There's a comment that Crystal Palace have a singing area. Is that true? An official "singing" bit?

A Liverpool supporters group even got behind it last week which has gone a long way to removing some of the stigma of the Hillsborough Disaster, especially now that it's been revealed it was not the supporters fault that day.

@SafeStandingRS and @SafeStandingUK are worth a follow if you use Twitter. Makes it very easy to follow the support the top two tiers or English football are giving this now. Villa and Man City both very keen. City already looking at it as an alternative to expanding capacity pre-building on to the back of the stands.

I noticed at the QPR game the stewards in Y25 were on a mission again. They were focussing on the front telling people to sit down.

Why do they only seem to care some of the time? It doesn't seem to matter who opponents are or attendance.
