Kick off time tonight

by Big Foot » 30 Oct 2012 11:51

Anyone know why it's a 745pm kick off instead of 8pm tonight?

I'm mildly interested.

I presume the hand of Sky TV is on it.

Or maybe in case there's extra time.

I'm sure that previous televised cup games have kicked off at 8pm though...? So, what's different this time?

Don't League Cup games often kick off at 7.45 on account of potential extra time?

For some reason all the League cup ties covered by Sky kick off at 7:45. But I have known league games kick off at 8. So it must be an extra time thing.

15 minutes silence for Brian McDermott.

Actually, I jest.

90 minutes silence for all of us.

Junction 11 (A33/M4) junction was grid locked last night with all roads joining resulting in tailbacks.

The problems were caused by cars using the car parks off Imperial way, there were too many of them wanting to park as the roundabout at the Courage roundabout (Tesco) was totally blocked, after that the A33 was clear.

More car park attendants collecting the money may help to get the cars in and parked quicker!!

It took a friend of mine 30 mins from coming off the M4 J11 to parking up her car, at a car park on Imperial Way.

This only strengthens the case for a train station to be built at Green Park so we cut the reliance on buses and cars.

It'll handle so few extra people it'll hardly be worth it. Long walk, no extra trains, and no siding where a train can be held in the event of - say - extra time.

That 15 minutes made a difference then, huh? I left 15 minutes early. I know, it's madness; and I got parked and to the stadium just as I normally do.

8pm kick off = reduced traffic

7.45pm kick off = increased traffic

MADNESS

I couldn't physically have left any earlier because of work so I would definitely have preferred an 8pm kick off. I made it in to Reading by 6.55 and went straight for the buses. I missed the first four minutes (having run from the bus to the North Stand). I've only once ever missed kick off before (having come for a lot of games from Southampton or Bournemouth) and that was the League Cup game against Liverpool where the buses were slow and then there was masses queued outside because of either Liverpool fans with duplicate tickets or not all turnstiles open or a mix (I forget). An 8pm kick off would have meant I could even have grabbed some dinner on my way in. Oh well - at least I got a bonus 30 minutes for my money...

Have to say I had no trouble getting to the stadium. Not any different than any other evening game which are always worse than 3pm kick-offs. It was a little backed up on the IDR to Rose Kiln Lane but only added 10 minutes to my journey. We parked up and there were a lot more parking spaces than usual (we park down Acre Rd in the free parking business car park near the gravel car park). Leave early if you anticipate a longer journey, or perhaps plan your route better if possible.

More parking spaces than usual because of people stuck in traffic due to a ridiculous early kick off.

Well obviously, but had they left a bit earlier like many others did, they too would have got to the ground at a similar time as they normally do. Just out of interest, well almost; what route did you travel to the ground and what times?
