"Without being disrespectful, if you were to look at any Premier League team in the bottom eight, then how many Reading players would get in their team? That's what boss Brian McDermott is up against, as a manager of a promoted team who has not got a lot of money to spend."

That's why we won the championship, ahead of Southampton incidentally. The bloke is a w*nker.

Yeah we won the championship, then spent £5m. Southampton spent £25m.

Yeah but they spent £8m on a Championship player and £11m on Rodriguez (good capture for them). Their defence is just as shambolic as ours, if not more so it's got Soton nowhere

But all he's saying is that it's harder for McDermott because he hasn't had the money, no matter how well it's been spent. Lawro's a pcunt but there's no need for people to get so defensive every time he has something negative to say about us.

True but some of what he says is pure rubbish, Pogbrenyak and Roberts would get into other sides - Shorey has been a PL player for a long time now. Norwich are hardly an attractive side with big names either, nearly all of them were League one players a few years back. What we lack in individual talent we make up for in team spirit which Brian has moulded over the last couple of years.

Had we spent £25m like Soton and been in the same position would it have been worth it? No. Everyone moans when we don't spend money but even if you do success is never guaranteed.

Yes and from what we've seen so far that won't be enough which is essentially the point he's trying to make I think. Looking through Norwich's squad list, I'd probably have Martin, Howson, Holt, Bassong and maybe Garrido, Hoolahan and Tettey starting for us or at least in the squad.

What I find funny is that fans* slag off their club's players, saying how rubbish they are etc, yet as soon as anyone else says the same, there's outrage at the comments of the "clueless idiot" saying it.

Pretty reasonable assessment this week

Lawro Reading v Everton
Like QPR, Reading are still waiting for their first league win of the season. Unlike Mark Hughes, Royals manager Brian McDermott is not under any great pressure but he needs a win for his players as much as for himself. They are playing well enough and being competitive but they need a victory to give them the belief they need. Otherwise some of them will be going into games thinking the worst. McDermott is getting the best out of what he has got in his squad, but the question is whether that will be enough to keep them in the Premier League. Reading need to look at Norwich, who are on a nice little run, and somehow turn a couple of draws into wins. It doesn't matter how but it needs to happen soon. I cannot see them beating Everton, though. The way David Moyes' side came back to beat Sunderland last weekend was a great example of why they are fourth in the table. Their winner against the Black Cats just had that touch of class about it - Marouane Fellaini's flick and Nikica Jelavic's finish were absolute quality.

Prediction: 1-2

Hard to disagree with anything Lawro's said there.

Exactly. Southampton are below us and shipping goals. They overpaid on players like Rodrigues, so the figure of £25million doesn't reflect the value of their transfers.

Much as he is a knob head, and his loaves and fishes comment was outrageously disrespectful, he has been pretty accurate with a lot of his assessments of us this season.

Yeah, let's go out and buy loads of sh|t players for a lot of money!

Not quite what those advocating better investment are suggesting, is it?
