Always going to be a red card in today's game. Doesn't matter if he wins the ball or not, it's two footed and dangerous.

Two footed = red card. Biggest question is why he did it, he reached the ball first and would have if he'd just stuck one leg out.

That's not two footed, the leg that doesn't play the ball is bent at the knee. It's not even a foul.

That's a new definition of a two-footed challenge.

Both legs are in the air and travelling in the direction of the ball. He has launched himself at the ball, it's the very definition of a dangerous tackle and the sort of tackle the laws seek to punish.

He got the ball, and it wasn't the worst challenge you'll see all season, but it was a red card.

The angle at 0:12 is the clearest, both feet leave the ground at the same time and move out from under him towards the ball.

Look at the first angle, when he plays the ball, his other foot is level with his waist about 3ft from the point of contact with the ball. Quite simply, it is not two footed.

Until you look at the second angle, when it becomes clear that it is.

Two feet, leaving the ground at the same time, both moving towards the ball.

So the first angle is photoshopped?

Have to side with Schards here. Never a red, not even a foul for me. Not dangerous and he won the ball. Don't mind him being suspended for 3 games though, hope they appeal and lose.

Cmonurz, have you ever played football? You're such a woofter that I very much doubt it. Schards has played loads and to be fair his opinions on stuff like this are spot on as a result.

Schards#2 So the first angle is photoshopped?

Does the second angle not count?

In the second angle it is not clear where the second foot is in relation to the one that plays the ball, but it's OK because the first angle clears that up, it's nowhere near it.It is clearly not a two footed challange but if the FA want to say that, despite that, that sort of challange is still a red card, they should outlaw any sliding tackle and remove any uncertainty

If I've misunderstood then fair enough. I thought it was pretty clear by now that if you take two feet off the ground and launch yourself at the ball, you risk being sent off.

For the sake of repeating once more - both feet come off the ground at the same time.

I'll argue the other side as to whether Kompany's challenge should be a red card - I'd say not - but by the rules we all know exist, it was an easy decision.

in total ignorance (I didnt watch the game) did the referee have the benefit of these frozen-framed angles?

(oh, I get it, he has now)

Based on the video replays, you could argue Dean has the best angle of all (and one not covered by the TV cameras).

In no way could it be deemed to be a 2 footed tackle, and he shouldn't have been sent off.

However, two feet off the ground, wherever they are in relation to the ball, gives the ref an excuse to get out a red card so he only has himself to blame.

Never a red. Completely with Schards#2 on that one. Also winning the ball and it being a clean challenge should, and I know it's not, be taken into account. I'd like more challenges like that in the game (i.e. non-malicious but a proper mans tackle) The game is ridiculously soft now.

At some point in many sliding/diving/lunging tackles you have two feet off the ground ...... often its the only way you can get the forward stretch and momentum (unless footballers can do the splits and slide on their balls of course.)

The difference comes on whether two feet are going for the actual tackle, and in this case clearly not

Karacan and POG are forever doing the type of tackle you describe
