Handsome Man It is extremely rare that a red card kills the game. You might as well outlaw goals as well because they are nearly as exciting as red cards and sometimes take the edge of an exciting situation.

John Madejski's WalletAvon Royal In no way could it be deemed to be a 2 footed tackle, and he shouldn't have been sent off.
However, two feet off the ground, wherever they are in relation to the ball, gives the ref an excuse to get out a red card so he only has himself to blame.
At some point in many sliding/diving/lunging tackles you have two feet off the ground ...... often its the only way you can get the forward stretch and momentum (unless footballers can do the splits and slide on their balls of course.)
The difference comes on whether two feet are going for the actual tackle, and in this case clearly not

Ian Royal It's always going to look more dangerous if you're going straight at the player as well. There's nothing wrong with lunging in, providing you've timed it even vaguely well, and you're going past / around the player not at them.

Kompany's tackle is timed perfectly

cmonurz Don't disagree RR, but the penalty try example that you give is for (for example) persistent fouling near the try line - so might be a solution for say deliberate handballs on the goal-line, or cynical professional fouls. Kompany's challenge fits more into the category of Warburton's debated 'spear tackle' in the last World Cup final, for which he was sent off, PEARCEY said harshly but the General Sport Coalition, sensing blood, felt it was a reasonable decision.
