Lack of pubs around the stadium

by SPARTA » 21 Feb 2013 19:51

Mr Osborne said he could not give details of the four schemes but he has previously said a pub or a fast food restaurant could be built along with a new speedway stadium [in South Reading].

What a result that will be if it gets the nod! Potential gold mine!

I would love it if this happens, finally Dog racing and Reading Racers back in Reading. But we've been here before....

I can't see that at all. A few hundred yards away is a McDonalds, a Pizza Hut and a KFC. So what fast food restaurant can you envisage being built there? Burger King? There's little else to choose from.

I can see a bar come restaurant. The area needs one, especially with the new housing on Kennet Island, and there are more houses planned for that area.

A large yet traditional pub with CAMRA accolades, a dozen handpubs of cask conditioned ale, festooned with RFC memorabilia and regularly frequented by Morris dancers. There should also be a curry restaurant annex like that place in West Brom.

That's hardly a restaurant though. It's a glorified take-away with a small seated area. It would feel far too remote for one of those in any case. They're almost always in a shopping present, mall, by a well populated shopping centre. To plonk one on it's bill in what would feel like the middle of nowhere, in the hope that drivers would pop out to get one, rather than walk past and nip in and out before carrying on with their shopping seems unlikely.

The special breed that get attracted to Speedway. Usually anoraks and greasy hair with thick rimmed glasses.

Unfortunately, for your mirth, I fit none of those criteria

However, credit where due, it sounds very much like our current West Stand football incumbents.
