Confirmed that they will start their match at the weekend against Walsall with an XI that all came through their academy.

Fair play. Any idea how many of those XI are already first team regulars?

Apparently only the goalkeeper will be making his debut, but he's been their sub for the last three months or so. Everyone else is there or there abouts.

Makes it all the more impressive really as anyone could pluck 11 youngsters to play but Crewe have 10 of them that are good enough to be first team anyway!

This is being reported as the first time a British team has done this. Doesn't sound right to me though when you consider what football was like many moons ago

Didn't Middlesbrough do this at Fulham a few years ago?

Does this mean they have all played together for years? 17/5 for the win..

Surely most of them played together the week before though, except with a different keeper.

17/5 is a good price for a team with Crewe's not-exactly-a-disaster home record, but Walsall haven't lost for 15 matches.

Anyway, best of luck if you take it on.

15 of the 16 in the match squad were from the academy and born within 30 miles of the ground. They got beaten 1-0 thanks to a late penalty, a very admirable effort.
