floyd__streete The whole 'McD was sacked to give Adkins time to experiment' bobbins doesn't really stack up when he fields exactly the same starting XI who failed against Norwich :|

Guthrie played well in midfield but his set-pieces were poor. Blackman was absolutely diabolical; playing as a winger, his lack of confidence on the ball is summed up by him turning and shileding the ball with his back to the opposition goal whenever he is under pressure.

Our fans are complete idiots. The love-affair with ALF I find staggering, Pog is twice the player. Pog turns and hits a glorious effort which curls just wide second half.....and the Le Fondre chant comes up. ALF once again mainly anonymous when he came on.

Pog missed numerous clear cut chances today. ALF has not justified anything more than a substitute role since January. Blackman looks a bit rubbish. Hunt lacks finishing quality, though he tries hard and has a good header. Roberts injured constantly. Church not in submitted squad and unlikely to play again for Reading.

Central midfield was our weak link for most of the season, but today, and at the moment in general, up front has been our weak link IMO.

Obviously doesn't hurt as much as last time, but still sucks of course.

I'm pretty nervous about next season to be honest. Heard a lot of people call/text into Berks saying we'll be back up next year, and even Anton expects this, but the way things are looking at the moment our squad could be stripped to the bare bones. There are players out of contract at the end of the season, players that have contracts and were favorites under Brian who are not getting a look in and obviously we have one or two players we could sell. It's going to be a massive rebuilding process over the summer, and I hope they back Nigel to bring in the players he wants.

Agreed. I don't see us going right back up (in fact I see us finishing between 9th-14th next season), and I see us having to clear out a bunch of players if we expect to get promoted and stay up next time. We have too many players on the wrong side of 30 years-old, or close to it, we have too many players who have spent their careers in the lower leagues who showed they can't cut it in the Premier League and too many players who have played in the Premier League before who have repeatedly shown with us they don't have what it takes to play in that division. I see only a handful of players who will still be with the team if we get promoted again within the next 2-3 years.

I thinl if anything was proven today it's that Adkins is so the right man for this job, we are keeping hold of the ball, passing it and generally looking like a football side, look forward to next season when his players come in, gonna be a fun time with him !

It's a relief that we didn't spunk a load of cash in Jan now. I absolutely trust that Anton will back Adkins in the summer. He has to put his money where his mouth is now. The fact Nigel is fully 'external' and hasn't climbed the ranks within the club is great as he'll have no qualms whatsoever about asking for money.

Agreed. He will sort this team out over the next few months. I do have high expectations for the next season or two, patience is needed by us the fans and we must give Nigel time to develop this team.

I hear his interviews and feel so much positivity about his words, how he explains things and he comes across with so much knowledge of modern day football.

Looking forward to the 2013/14 campaign already.

Royalwaster
Royal Lady Well, contrary to a lot of callers, on my way home, to Radio Berks - I thought we played ok there - everyone had a good game, everyone got stuck in. Disgusted with the bloke behind me who continually abused Blackman and the fans chanting for ALF - Blackman plays because he's told to and as Mick Gooding said, he's not being played through the middle which is his preferred position. He'll be good for us in Championship I reckon. I think we have the makings of a quality team in the Championship - I think we'll do all right - I can see what Adkins is trying to do, and our passing was brilliant at times today, no long ball hit and hope - so he has the rest of this season and pre-season to bring in a few more players, get rid of a few and concentrate on his game plan. I'm looking forward to winning lots of games in the Championship. URZZZZ!

+1 ... some of the callers and commentators on BBC Berkshire were unbelievable; thought we played with a lot of spirit and good passing especially in the 2nd half just lacked composure and above all confidence in the final third. Actually quite enjoyed the game and hope we'll see more of this next season but obviously with goals as well ... but generally encouraged.

+2.

Can anyone tell me why HRK gets a game? He was yet again an embarrasment when he came on.

Reckon I could do better than him - certainly no worse.

BTW has the fountain of knowledge "Tina from Tileurst" been on Sir Tim "I am just about the best thing that has happened to RFC since I don't know when" Dellor's show yet?

Awful, dull game. The only consolation being that QPR were worse than us and that's quite an achievement given the difference in spend between the two clubs. Adkins to borrow a phrase from the frothy mouthed mob "new improved style" basically consists of us playing a couple more passes in our own half than we did before and looking uncomfortable in doing so. At the other end, that's the end where you should be playing you football rather than what we're doing, the only creativity is coming from the wings which is the same situation as we were in under the previous regime.

McCarthy - Bad decision in the first half where he came out with no hope of getting the ball and was lucky not to concede. That seemed to affect his confidence as there were a couple of times where he should've come to claim the ball but didn't. Adkins seems to have worked out that his distribution is poor so he is taking shorter kicks. 6

Gunter - Got forward a couple of times and looks like he has the potential to be an asset in the :P :P Championship. Positioning still isn't that great though and they over ran him a couple of times in the second half. 6
Morrison/Mariappa - Both defended well against the £8 million laughing stock QPR had up front and Jay "all they do is lump it in the corners" Bothroyd. 6
Kelly - Still looks uncomfortable out of position but made a couple of good tackles. Doesn't get forward enough which probably isn't his fault tbh. 5

McAnuff - Beat his man on several occasions and one of the few who looked up for it. 8
McCleary - Not as good as McAnuff but came into the game a bit more as it went on and looks capable of replacing Kebe if we decide to cut our losses because of Jimmy's injuries. 6
Number 20. 7
Karacan - Offered what he usually does. Tried to pass a bit more but wasn't the best at it. 5
Blackman - One of the most painful things I've witnessed in a football match came in the first half as Blackman made a complete dog's dinner of trying to get the ball on to his left foot before losing the ball at about the 500th attempt with a tame pass. 4

Pogrebnyak - Missed our best chances to score including a tame header that went straight into the ground and messed up a good bit of skill with a shot that went close but was too wild. 5

Subs
HRK - Didn't do much. 5
Harte - Came on made a couple of tame crosses and didn't take a single set piece which in turn makes his presence pretty pointless. 3
Alf - Fans were calling for him, he came on had a bizarre cross/shot and was slightly unlucky with a header. Other than that not up to much. 5

winchester_royal That was the best Jem has played all season. The ball retention axis looked comfortable, and for the first time it didn't look like we were playing a game that was unnatural.

Still a long way to go in terms of chance creation, but that will only come through time, patience, and practice.

:|

Played the exact same sideways passing that many have complained about in the past.

I think he's been one of our better players this season too. Unfortunately, that same detail rather illustrates why we are going down.

I don't agree with all the comments about players putting no effort it. I think we went for the win. We just demonstrated a shocking level of passing that would seriously have been more at home in a League Two match.

HRK was poor today but he's not fully fit. He was only 50/50 to be ready for the game. This was illustrated when in the second half Jobi played a great ball into space in front of HRK and rather than run on to it as he would normally HRK jogged a couple of strides and gave up. He'd only been on the pitch for 10 minutes at this point....
