Doncaster Belles are the most famous and best-established women's team in England - and the only team that's been in the top flight for as long as it's existed. They've also produced far more England players than any other club - they are essentially right at the heart of women's football in England.
The FA have just announced a reorganisation of the women's leagues and added a second tier - effective the end of the season that has just started.
Of the 8 teams in the current Premier League, 7 will stay there.
Doncaster Belles won't - they are "relegated" to Tier 2, to be replaced by Manchester City, a brand new team.
No footballing reasons behind this whatsoever, and no reasons given by the FA - but obviously it's 100% money related and 0% football related.

Not quite correct Dirk, Notts County Ladies didn't exist per se prior to this exercise - the franchise has been lifted out of Lincoln and relocated to Meadow Lane, providing Nottingham with a Ladies PL team it didn't have and giving the thriving Lincoln-based supporters network which has kept the club going a nasty kick in the cunt on the way out.

SpaceCruiser Suspicious. Didn't Arse stay up and Tottenham get relegated in the very early stages of Football League. Are we seeing similar effects of that shit. I say.....RELEGATE ARSE and REINSTATE DONCASTER!!! Only fair...

From Despair To Where? Thought the Arse got voted up to the 1st Division in 1919 after finishing mid table in Division 2 repacing Leeds City who got liquidated for financial irregularities.
Something dodgy about the Secretary of the FA at the time being the Arsenal chairman or somesuch conflict of interest
