Great keeper. Nice bloke too apparently. I know someone who knew him. Don't make them like that anymore. Playing with a broken neck? Most of today's mob couldn't play with a broken nail.

A German who won the hearts of post war Britain by being a great goalkeeper and a jolly decent person.

Escaped from the Russians on the Eastern Front, escaped from the French Resistance, played in a cup final with three cracked vertebrae. Someone who truly deserves to be called a legend. His life would make a brilliant film.
