Couldn't see this anywhere else

Reading Football Club are almost at the bottom of a football league – but in a good way.

Reading are joint third lowest in the league of Championship clubs whose badly behaved fans were given banning orders for their behaviour at matches in the 2012/13 season.

Only five Reading supporters have been banned from matches during the period November 2012 to September 2013, compared with Leeds, who tops the shameful chart with 72 banning orders, followed by Millwall with 65.

Only Watford and Yeovil had fewer bans than Reading – four and one – while Blackpool achieved a draw with Reading.

In the Premier League, Cardiff City had the most shocking supporters with 121 being shut out from following their team, while Chelsea had 110.

Most Championship clubs have seen a drop in the number of banning orders they’ve had to issue, but Reading have stayed the same.

Arrests in the Premier League are down from 814 in 2011/12 to 722 in 2012/13, with Newcastle supporters accounting for 175 of them and Manchester United 145.

Newcastle fans are most likely to be arrested for violent disorder, Manchester United’s for alcohol offences and ticket touting, West Ham’s for racist and indecent chants and possession of offensive weapons while Chelsea supporters are most likely to invade the pitch.

Leeds tops the Championship arrest chart with 101 arrests in the 2012/13 season, while Reading fans scored nine – one at home and eight away.

Only Bournemouth (with seven arrests), Ipswich (four) and Yeovil (three) had fewer hooligan arrests.

If Reading had stayed in the Premier League, they would have tied with Fulham who also had nine arrests, making them the joint lowest.

The Reading fans were arrested for being drunk and disorderly, various other public order offences and drinking while in view of a football pitch.

Even away fans behaved themselves at the family-friendly Madejski Stadium, with only nine being arrested in 2012/13.

A Reading Football Club spokesman said: “We are delighted to boast such an excellent record at Reading and full credit should go to our supporters.”

No disrespect to the OP but I think this is a load of old bullshit - you could even argue it the other way round, Reading aren't as proactive at banning troublesome supporters as their counterparts.

These stats in themselves don't tell us anything meaningful.

Police don't tend to be at our homes games

Things that might get fans arrested elsewhere just get you chucked out at Reading.

Has always been the case that you'd get different treatment at different grounds - West Mids police and the Fulham police always seemed to be heavy handed compared to TVP for example. So these sort of stats are never going to really tell you much, but it is pretty clear that we don;t have a big issue with behaviour amongst our fans. Now we need to argue if that is why we are perhaps less vocal than some...

I don't see much of a connection between crowd violence and atmosphere. It's not as if our fans had a record for trouble in the Elm Park days.
