Hoffenheim's call for their Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen to be replayed after the awarding of an incorrect goal has been rejected.

Only player on the pitch who seems to know is the scorer.

There was another thread elsewhere on this. Apparently there's precedent for it in the Bundesliga.

Stefan Kiessling, incidentally, is one of my more favourite neutral players. Really good record for Leverkusen and watched him absolutely boss an England U-21 side in the mid-2000s.

Can see why the ref gave it, given it ended up in the back of the net.

There's a hole in the net, you can see it when they do the camera inside the goal.

It fooled me even though I was expecting something like that to happen. My first thought was to think that the next goal in the youtube clip would be the phantom one.

Will the scoring team get shit decisions for the rest of the season and beyond now to make up for this?

I was playing football in Dublin and a shot did the opposite, went through a hole at the base of the post.

Keeper stood up and went "went wide, goal kick" and the ref accepted it.

The next corner, two blokes shoulder barged him and the ball into the back of the net.

I understand that in the 70s Reading's opposition had a goal ruled out after the ball bounced out of the goal off a hoarding, and the referee assumed that it must have gone wide.

And didn't something happen at Watford a few years ago?

Speaking of Watford, they were very unfortunate again last night, the ref/lino decided this wasn't a goal :|

I thought it was 'phantom goal'? what has a ghost got to do with this?

Will it become poltergeist goal at some point?

Do they not have the same system in place, that the Premier League uses then?

Felt a bit sorry for the asst ref with the one last night. When they stopped the TV footage on the overhead cam there was no visible gap betwen the crossbar and the ball so not exactly a clearcut thing in realtime. But did raise the question are goalposts wider the the goalline?

That's when a kid runs on to the pitch and scores (I think this happened in Brasil last season ... )

No way could the referees assistant see that, then give it. Refs call and he either bottled it or view blocked also. Keith Hill had a poor game.

Talking of goals where the ball hits an advertising board and then bounces back out - I'm sure that in the late 90s, Leeds won at Southampton 3-0 (Michael Bridges hat-trick IIRC, distinctly remember him doing an Andy Johnson style burger eating celebration as he was a bit chubby) & Mark Hughes thumped the ball home from a set piece, only for the ball to hit an ad board and bounce back out - no goal given.
