Reading have benefitted twice from these circumstances, once v Watford a few years ago and once v Rochdale at Elm Park in 1975. On both occasions the ball missed the goal but a goal was awarded.

To be fair, the Tommy Youlden shot did hit the net, just the wrong side of the post.

The Watford one, however ...

genome Speaking of Watford, they were very unfortunate again last night, the ref/lino decided this wasn't a goal :|

Didn't look a goal on any of the replays they showed on ssn this morning or in that picture there. Was it a good decision by the ref and ignorance of the rules on Zola's part?

From in front of the goal it is very hard to tell if the ball has crosse the line as even a glimpse of grass doesn't mean the whole of the ball has crossed.

The view from side on certainly wasn't conclusive and I'm not sure it went it. Still, it makes for a controversial story to pad out some more air time for SSN.

Was that the goal Chrissy Kamara said Kebe scored when it was Hunt?

paultheroyal Keith Hill had a poor game.

Pretty standard from this bloke, he's been shit every time I've seen him - 9 games. One of the more memorable refs and that's nothing to do with his unfortunate obvious deformity.

And unfortunate ears!

He is actually a nice guy but I believe he is lucky to be officiating at the level he is at.

Hoffenheim's call for their Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen to be replayed after the awarding of an incorrect goal has been rejected.

OOF! Like others, I was waiting to see what was wrong with the next goal - only the slow-mos show what happened. No one protested!

Big Foot Talking of goals where the ball hits an advertising board and then bounces back out - I'm sure that in the late 90s, Leeds won at Southampton 3-0 (Michael Bridges hat-trick IIRC, distinctly remember him doing an Andy Johnson style burger eating celebration as he was a bit chubby) & Mark Hughes thumped the ball home from a set piece, only for the ball to hit an ad board and bounce back out - no goal given.

mentioned here:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... goals.html

there's also the infamous Clive Allen one.

Gerry Taggart
BOLTON WANDERERS v Everton, September 1997
Bolton were denied victory at the Reebok Stadium when referee Stephen Lodge failed to spot that Gerry Taggart's looping header had fallen six inches behind the line before it was cleared by defender Terry Phelan.
This story gets worse, particularly if you are a Trotters fan...
The match ended goalless, and the teams finished level on points at the end of the season. Bolton were relegated on goal difference, Everton stayed up.

^^^ That's the first time I ever remember seeing "technology" used in regard to football, the 3D edition of the pitch generated and span round etc etc
