Best Player Departures/Retirement

[St Pauli]

This season FC St Pauli legend Fabian Boll retired. He's the last of the regular players who was at the club when I was watching them in 05/06. He's in a long list of players who have stayed at St Pauli for almost all their career, the club attracts a lot of loyalty from players, and I'd like to think it's from the great support St Pauli fans give to players they recognise as loving the club and giving there all for it.

I think that's particularly apparent in this video showing the absolute adoration from the stands. Worth watching all the way through IMO if only to get a shot of his hot wife later on:

What also stands out is that he's adored by the St Pauli Ultras, a group riddled with Communists, Anarchists and 'physical' Anti Fascists known for their 'hands on' approach when it comes to the far right, and they don't have the best relationship with the Hamburg police. Fabian Boll is a part time policeman when he's not playing and now he's retired is going full time. The Ultras who normally see ACAB were the most enthusiastic in singing his praises as seen in their visual and pyrotechnic displays at the beginning and end of this clip:

Didn't Boll reject a move to Bristol City a few years ago?

Apparently he got an offer from City but St Pauli extended his contract. Said he liked English football but loved St Pauli too much to leave.
