Must be a tight decision for some "nations" whether to take part or not. I can't imagine FIFA look all that kindly on it.

No Catalunia, no Kosovo. Quebec pull out and decide to play by FIFA's tune.

Gr8 idea, the little man (or nation, in this case) sticking it to FIFA.

You may say that, Green. But South Ossetia only exists so that Russia can put the wind up Georgia.

Not so much the little man sticking it to FIFA now.

Let's hope the team representing people who are still upset about France's annexation of Nice in 1860 can put them out, then.

Meanwhile the Isle of Man seem to be facing the last vestige of the Assyrian Empire. A shame Babylon and Sumeria didn't make it through.

It's certainly true that a lot of so called "nations" get XI pub footballers to apply to join FIFA as it gives them more credence as a country. In fact I think it's why FIFA had to stop accepting new countries, it was getting silly.

But that makes this breakaway rebel setup all the more special. If there are war torn corrupt and disputed territories involved so much the better - more exciting for the neutral spectator and takes their mind off their domestic struggles.

Kosovo have permission to play friendlies against FIFA nations. Catalunia (and, I guess, all the Spanish regional teams) are like the Harlem Globetrotters really.

Plus there appear to be about three or four different non-FIFA federations.

It's all fascinating stuff though.

Well, even if I find myself standing alone on General Football, I will continue to object to giving succour to Vladimir Putin.

Yeh fair fooks, but CONIFA's position would be untenable if they had to vet entrants. "Come one come all, you're only cheating yourselves if you're using our tournie for sabre rattling" needs to be their mantra.

It's only a game.

I was hoping for a "GUO of succour", but I'll take a "fair fooks" on a Friday evening.

If Brazil were to win this years world cup, could they become the first side to do so not featuring a single player from their domestic leagues?
