From Despair To Where? So Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge were built after the Taylor Report?

OK

From Despair To Where? But when Stuka has made it clear he's talking about post Taylor Report stadia, Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford are irrelevant to the discussion.

He didn't though.

He did 2 posts before Kes posted.

Well sort of

Re the OP, Twickenham has to be right up there as one of the first. One fact i do know about it is that it was the first stadium in the world to have 3 tiers.

The three-tiered Goodison Road stand was built in 1971. The Twickers redevelopment started in 1981.

I'm sure frimmers will be along soon to tell us the Shelf had 3 tiers and he stood on it man and boy, crammed 50 deep, the smell of woodbines and bovril, small boys, jumpers for goalposts.......

I suppose it's kind of 3 tiers

^ On that basis then you could argue that the North, South & East Stands at Madejski Stadium are 2 tiers

I went on the stadium tour 10 years ago and the bloke told me Twickenham was the first...I'm off to get my money back.

I would imagine that the White City stadium built for the 1908 olympics was an early example.

I would guess he meant all the way round. There have been numerous triple decker (and more) stands before Twickenham was built. I think the first actual triple decker in England was Chelsea.

It can't even have been the world's first all round triple decker either come to think of it. Giants Stadium, for example, was built in the 1970s.

So it's probably Old Trafford then. As improvements were done prior to the Riverside being built in 1995. The new Den was the first of the new Stadia post Taylor (granted it isn't a bowl) as it opened in 1993.

Thanks for clearing that up then. The first new build stadium constructed after the Taylor Report in an enclosed bowl style was either Old Trafford or the New Den.

hardly a bowl as there are 4 stand alone stands. And in the top left hand corner, the original Den is visible.
