Keith Curle pulls no punches

by Dick Habbin's hairdo » 09 Jan 2015 17:00

Nice to see one of the best value players Reading have had over the past 40 years sticking to his guns with some memorable quotes regarding a player who he manages at Carlisle.

Unfortunately, having Googled the story from the BBC website below, there's this Daily Mail link, too: [urlhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2903383/Is-Keith-Curle-honest-manager-Carlisle-boss-says-Alex-Marrow-wants-leave-want-gone-midfielder-won-t-depart-without-pay-off.html][/url]

No one can accuse Carlisle United manager Keith Curle of not being straight-talking.
Speaking to the club's website about the return of midfielder Alex Marrow to training, Curle said: "The situation is that Alex wants to leave the football club. I also want Alex to leave the football club.

"Fortunately for Alex, while he is here, and doesn't want to be here, he still gets paid. Unfortunately for me while Alex is here, and doesn't want to be here, I've still got to pay him.
"I've asked Alex to leave and not take the money he's owed. That has been my negotiating strategy. We've obviously hit a stumbling block on that.
"In the short term the beauty of what we've got with working for a very honourable football club is that we will continue to pay Alex for his services, even though he doesn't want to be here."
We're just guessing here, but it sounds like the two of them might not be going out for a drink together anytime soon...

Obviously difficult to say how much of a dick the player's being about it, but that's got to be a common occurrence and part and parcel of what a manager has to deal with. Whilst his honesty is refreshing, it does come across as a bit petulant and spoilt.
