Play at the Madejski

by philgeorge1 » 23 Jan 2015 23:46

Hi Guys,

Forgive me as this is my first post, but I wanted to offer other Reading fans the opportunity to play at the Madejski. I am organising two charity 11-a-side games, raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). We organised two similar games at Fratton Park last season and raised over £3,500!

Players pay for a position and in exchange get:-

* To play at the Madejski Stadium!
* Get use of the home or away dressing rooms.
* Photos of the day.
* Full match DVD with commentary.
* Full kit with your name and chosen number on it.
* Penalty shootout at the end of the game.
* Announced onto the pitch at the start of the game (along with your children as mascots if you wish)
* FA referee and linesman.

We have full information on our Facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/techarityevents or our website http://www.leagueedstreme.com/team-edstreme. Obviously if you have any other questions, post below or if you would like a position then comment on the event page on Facebook (shows which positions are already taken) https://www.facebook.com/events/1505782 ... 6/?fref=ts

Thanks!

We are raising money for charity and have to pay the club quite a substantial sum for the hire of the pitch, so unfortunately these things aren't free! Compared to other similar charity events, this is quite cheap.

I think you should be up front about this cost, and put it in the OP.

£350 is a lot of money for one person

That isn't a problem. Prices are at all of the links I posted (getting an error trying to upload the poster here). £350 is a team sponsor cost, our cheapest position is as a sub with a guaranteed 30 mins of football for only £110.

Possibly interested but would depend who the other players are. If its for charity then the players need to reflect that. Been to too many Charity Games/Tournaments that are full of sunday league thugs and or people who think its the Champions League Final !
Shouting and bawling at the less gifted or less fit players who have paid the same amount and are only there for the experience and to support the charity.

Certainly no Sunday league thugs. The majority of players who have signed up so far are from a 7-a-side league we run in Portsmouth called League Edstreme, so we know them and know they aren't rough.

As for standard, there is a definite charity feel to it. Some half decent quick players as you would expect, most their for the experience and the first time their boots have come out since last year!

As I mentioned we have a DVD of the game given out after. Here is one of the games from last year on YouTube so you can see what the sort of standard is - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5fty2KmBPQ

What's shocking is the lack of CSR the club has shown

I suppose they have to pay Pog's wages somehow

WAZZOCK Business in maximising revenue opportunities shocker :shock:

The shocker is the commercial opportunity being masked as a charity shindig.

We're expected to dig deep to not only give to charity but also line the club's pockets.

Many as a player and coach of youth teams...
Played in one recently that was just fight after fight, teams and officials. Worst team of all was the one representing the charity the funds were being raised for.
Ridiculous and Shameful

We are looking to raise a decent amount for the charity, so that is factored into the prices. We also have other expenses like the DVD filming, photography, kits etc. The club are entitled to charge what they like and sell out every year, so it is evidently priced very well!

How do you know? I might pay and then cause a fight just to get my money back as you guaranteed it wouldn't happen.
