Burnley is correct, I had remembered it against Oldham but evidently not.

With the game won it was fitting that Cureton popped up again in the dying minutes to score the goal of the game. And what a goal. With the keeper off his line, and Cureton well out, he lobbed it towards goal, where it dipped delightfully into the back of the net. The keeper must have wondered how it had happened. He'd been beaten by a moment of pure class. Cureton went mental in celebration of his sixth goal in just five games - and who could blame him? It's an amazing achievement for a striker that's only completed three full games in Division One for the Royals. So a great team performance, and a solid victory. Reading continue to look like a Division One side. We won't be getting promotion this season perhaps, but we certainly deserve our current mid-table position.

I was actually about to say i remember a belter at Oldham on a cold wet Tuesday evening but that was more of an outside of the boot job than a dipper if memory serves.

Took my boy to see Dagenham / AFC Wimbledon yesterday, first time he's seen Curo play, who duly scored a hattrick. Very much still has it, even at the age of 39, fantastic day out.

I've never understood why some people belittle the ability of six-yard box poachers.

If "just being in the right place at the right time" is so easy, why can't other strikers do it?

People make out they just stand around like playground goal-hangers, but a huge amount of it is about anticipation. One of my favourite Cureton goals was a volleyed goal from close range after the keeper dropped the ball (I think against Norwich).

It sounds an easy tap-in that anyone could have scored. The thing is, while most forwards would have just turned and accepted the chance was gone, and been ball-watching until the drop, Cureton was shaping for the volley before the keeper had dropped it.
