Football League Team of the Decade

by Brum Royal » 20 Apr 2015 12:20

The Football Manager Team of the Decade

Goalkeeper: Kasper Schmeichel
Defender: Angel Rangel
Defender: Gareth Bale
Defender: Wes Morgan
Defender: Ashley Williams
Midfielder: Wes Hoolahan
Midfielder: Adam Lallana
Midfielder: Peter Whittingham
Forward: Glenn Murray
Forward: Rickie Lambert
Forward: Jordan Rhodes

Manager: Eddie Howe

I'm not sure I agree with a few of those - defender Gareth Bale? really? Kasper Schmeichel has been the best keeper over the last decade?

And I'm certainly in disagreement with Eddie Howe as the manager

Rubbish idea, it's all a bit now/recent in terms of the players selected.

.....And with no Bas Savage it must be rubbish.

By the looks of the team, most people have short memories. Most are recent Championship players.

Indeed, if you're going to include Gareth Bale then you might as well have him in as an attacker. There's no way he was one of the FL's best ever defenders. Short sighted.

Sekou Baradji aswell.

Provided the assist for Gunnarsson's header against Sheff Utd.

Is this based on current ability or what they were like in the Championship?

There doesn't seem to be a particularly clear selection policy for it. You've got Gareth Bale in there, seemingly more for what he's gone on to achieve, whereas Wes Morgan must have played pretty much every season. Many of the players on there don't seem to have been around all that long, wheras a team of the decade would suggest longer service. Eddie Howe for instance has only achieved success with Bournemouth, and probably was still a player for a good portion of the 10 years under consideration.

I've got no problem with the likes of Whittingham or Lambert being in there, but some of the selections seem to be very short sighted/and or Championship only selections. With the sheer number of clubs and goals scored, then a previous mention of Curo to be selected is a valid shout.

Yeah its odd cos you've got players like Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott etc that played in the Championship who i would say are better than most on that list

The whole premise is bollox & to not have Coppell as mgr is ridiculous frankly. Howe is the new Roberto Martinez these days though - can't do any wrong as far as the media are concerned.

With Howe, what's he achieved in the championship over a decade?

There's this season, which could still end in failure, and a mediocre stint at Burnley.

How on earth does that make him the best of the last 10 years?

Has anyone just replied to this with the 05/06 starting XI and Coppell as manager yet?

Those are all terrible choices, even if you exclude the best team the division's ever seen.

Surely, as much as we hate him, Warnock is one of the best?!

Where's Greg Halford?
He must have played for every team in the football league in the last 10 years!
And all those transfer fees are probably combined larger than anything spent on that decidedly average Gareth Bale

I would say the minimum requirement to be manager of the decade is to actually have won the Championship.

It becomes more of a joke list the more I look at it. Even Mick McCarthy has a higher win percentage, over more games

Trying to be objective here, but to not have either Wilfred Zaha or Victor Moses in that team is terrible; also I would have had Speroni or Kenny (let alone Marcus!) as the keeper and Darren Pratley was immense in midfield for Swansea.

I am also genuinely unable to think of a better or more consistent left back than Shorey, and how Zamora has been left out is also a mystery.

Hey ho.
