Season 2014 - 15 overview

by PeterReadingborn59 » 26 May 2015 10:59

Just read Gareth Crooks review of the 2014 - 15 season [urlhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32864685][/url] stating it was a fantastic season in the Premiership, and wonder if I was watching the same season in which:
- Chelsea were not challenged for the title and really took the title by avoiding the poor performances and results other teams had, even Crooks selected six Chelsea players for his best team, showing Chelsea domination
- final day excitement was the possibility that Hull might jump over Newcastle and stay up,
- the top four were the four, wealthy, predicted at the season start
- three promoted clubs showed the gap between the divisions is growing bigger and why the promoted teams will be first inked in for the drop, just Leicester escaping as Hull and Newcastle stopped playing,
- "top" players earnings not reflecting entertainment value they deliver, particularly the United big players etc.
- "English" clubs knocked out of Champions League early
- Premiership non-English participation continues to grow at Manager and player levels
- BBC coverage continues to give more time to build-up and after match review than actual playing time, Gary Lineker's wooden chats etc.
- FIFA leadership - best ask no questions

A cancelled Sky Sports subscription was not regretted.

Pluses were:
- goal line technology coming in, particularly as otherwise Reading would not have had a goal of the season.
- hope of young English players coming through, particularly Kane

Rubbish Premier League season. Chelsea were too good for anyone else, Manchester City were disgracefully off the pace for the money they've spent. The 'race for 4th place' is not an exciting concept, media men take note. Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal were largely flat track bullies this season, light years behind Chelsea. Relegation scrap at least saw QPR's thoroughly deserved relegation and Burnley's depressingly obvious relegation.....in summary, the gap is getting wider, the league less competitive and less interesting. Watching Drogba chaired off the pitch by his team mates in a fully orchestrated vomit-inducing 'tribute' summed up the fact that the players are becoming yet more arrogant and detatched from common decency with each passing season.

Agree with most of the above.
Not a vintage season at all.
Chelsea looked fabulous in their away win at Swansea but after that thrashing by Spurs did become the boring side that Wenger and the media called them.
One very entertaining game was when Leicester embarrassed Man Utd.
Arsenal and Liverpool played some attractive stuff but not often enough.
Performances in Europe were abysmal.

The FA Cup had the result of the season when Bradford stuffed Chelsea.
The one good thing about our division was that the 3 best footballing sides got promoted.
