LUX srsly, who gives a fck?

Posters on this thread, egged on by the press obviously.

No doubt FIFA are bent, just like the IOC. But how does it affect YOU? What difference does it make (winky to Kes)?

#fauxoutrage

Is this the view an auditor should be taking?

go on then RR, why?

Why is this corruption worse than, say, those banks manipul8ing exchange and interest r8s and screwing the rest of us? Or bent governments/the EU or similar abusing taxpayers' money?

yes.

The American authorities have evidence and they are going to prosecute. Good, serves the corrupt FIFA guys right.

I'm questioning the OTT reactions of "sane" people to the story. Prince William (or was it Harry?) apparently interevened "for the good of football" at the weekend. Hope to see the Pope get involved too. It's a burning issue.

it's the same mentality as that displayed by those who complain about the vote rigging on Eurovision.

Yes, but you should be no more or no less outraged by this than other incidences of corruption

In fact, you should be in a state of permarage

No surprise to see a guy who steals from the church whiteknighting such an immoral organisation.

It isn't.

But the whole "you give me this, if I give you that - this way we both get rich, even though there are others who would do it for nothing..." racket makes me sick.

You could apply that logic to virtually everything in the world. But the conduct of FIFA does have an impact on those interested in football if decisions as to where the world's biggest and most interesting tournament is held are determined by the use of funds.

Obviously it isn't a shock that such a massive fan of an organisation as corrupt as the EU wouldn't give a fck about this, however, it affects EVERYBODY who is a football fan; had there been a clean vote on 2018, England would have won - that would have brought vast amounts of money into the country at large and for football in particular, not least from the increase in interest in all types of football that would have been generated by the tournament being here.

had thee been a clean vote for 2022 Australia may well have won it, thus helping raise the profile of the sport as it tries to emerge against far more established sports.

But hey, who really gives a fck eh?

Re: FIFA

that's exactly the kind of sophistic8ed response I was looking for.

England's bid for the World Cup was unsuccessful, only receiving 2 out of 22 votes from the FIFA executive committee in the first round of voting. The rights to host the 2018 World Cup were eventually awarded to Russia.

it's just not fair.

Re: FIFA

It was so close, England,s bid only just failed

Russia won the right to be the 2018 host in the second round of voting. The Spain/Portugal bid came second, and that from Belgium/Netherlands third. England's bid to host its second tournament fell at the first hurdle.

The voting patterns were as follows:

Round 1 Round 2
Russia 9 13
Portugal / Spain 7 7
Belgium / Netherlands 4 2
England 2 Eliminated

tantalising.

If there had been a clean vote England would have won. And don't even start me on those Slavs voting for each other in Eurovision.

Well I think it's probably less endemic throughout bank senior employees, but otherwise it isn't worse. Bent foreign governments? deplorable definitely less of our business. In terms of EU / our government I think there's a difference between wholescale corruption and fiddling your expenses for a duck pond, even it that is still definitely bang out of order. Likewise the relative scale of graft and incompetence

The Spain/Portugal bid was proven (by FIFA) to be in collusion with the Qatar bid over voting for 2018/22....

Reasonable point made on TalkSport this morning that a road for UEFA to go down might be to increase pressure for the full release of Garcia's report; Blatter's position could be untenable if it is shown he suppressed information related in some way to these arrests.
