Offside

by John Madejski's Wallet » 07 Aug 2015 14:57

So it appears the guidance has changed this year and the managers are moaning that they don't understand it and nor do the players. And saggy harry on R5 reckoned if they couldn't understand it, what chance do the crown have.................. Well harry, seeing as the average IQ of the crowd is about 10 points higher than the average player or manager, then I suggest a very good one. Prick

fwiw, the simple clarification from the head of refs seemed to make perfect sense to me

from what he said, last season the guidance was that a player was only to be given offside if he touched the ball. Now the guidance states he can be offside if he makes an attempt for the ball or generally makes a move to cause interference with the oppo. Seems reasonable enough to me

Indeed. Best way to explain it is the Convey equaliser here

Although it was offside anyway.

My favourite thing about that clip is not John "what's your username, mate" Halls grabbing a goal, but the first part of it Bikey absolutely monstering someone. Lovely stuff.

I'd imagine Redknapp's problem is he can't see a way of making a few quid off the change.

Maybe if it was explained using brown envelopes, non-sequential notes, swiss bank account references and HMRC in some form of analogous example Harry'd have less problem following it.

I always think of that Hull goal that on most interpretations of the rules by most referees would have been given offside but wasn't as he didn't actually touch the ball. But even that season with the same "guidance" pretty well all other refs called offside in similar situations.
