Readingfc.co.uk

by Forbury Lion » 04 Sep 2015 12:22

Has anyone has the misfortune of visiting the official site on a computer? - Sensory overload or what? Far too much going on, Makes it difficult to find what your looking for with all those boxes and colour.... bring back the old award winning site!

The mobile version of the site is much better.

It's been horrific since whoever it was back in the day 10-15 years ago bought some kind of rights deal and standardised them all.

The original site was actually alright I think, certainly for its time (launched in the late 90s)
https://web.archive.org/web/20000815084454/http://www.readingfc.co.uk/

This was when it all went wrong (circa 2003)
https://web.archive.org/web/20030201092743/http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk/home/view/home_page/0,,10306,00.html

Circa 2006 not much had changed (very tabloidy, passive aggresive in your face style)
https://web.archive.org/web/20060705022514/http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Home/0,,10306,00.html

Circa 2009 and we've got the hugely irritating splash screen to even access the damn thing
https://web.archive.org/web/20090703093305/http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/Welcome
Which when you do, is a cluttered mess.

And one final one from 2012, splash screen is gone but otherwise still the cluttered mess
https://web.archive.org/web/20120330225431/http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/Home/0,,10306,00.html

Thank god other news sites are available. You should only ever need to go on there for ticket information these days.

Think that had more than a little involvement from HNA!

Before then HNA? was the de facto official site.

Thanks for these!

I think the 2012 one was my favourite layout. Don't like the current one much at all.

It should just be a simple site - ticket office, club shop, club information. That would be enough.

With everything on twitter and facebook there is really no need for 90% of the site as it stands. Like its been made by a developer who has gone bat siht crazy when left to their own devices.

Ditto, I used to regularly browse news pages but that arrows don't work for navigation and it's just annoying. All they seem to want to do is flog Reading Player subscriptions.

The ticketing site is ok as long as there's nobody else slowing it down.

She knows his lastname is Ash and his first name begins with a C as she used to write the milkman cheques for C ASH

It's what happens when a corporate deal is signed with some trendy Internet firm by the FL

The original website listed was much easier to cope with

"ROYALS BOOSTED BY BUTLER RETURN
16th August
Martin Butler and Andy Gurney made a welcome return to action for the reserves at Norwich last night, and both played themselves into contention for Saturday's clash with Swindon by lasting the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw.

In the opening Avon Combination fixture of the season, the Royals went behind late in the first half but equalised through Keith Scott after good work by Sammy Igoe early in the second period. Reading looked more likely to win the game and the best chance was a penalty but Butler's shot hit the crossbar. Coach Nicky Hammond was very satisfied with the performance, singling out John Mackie, Sean Evers and Joe Gamble for praise. "

I used Windows 98 up to about 2010. I was really impressed by how clean and simple to use the official site was.

Then I bought a new PC with an up-to-date Windows and discovered that "clean and simple" was only because my operating system hadn't displayed the 50 adverts on each page.

Thanks for posting, I vaguely remember those 2003 and 2006 sites.

Agree the only reason I go on the OS now is for ticket info.

The academy news is total gold. Highlights:

The Royals Academy is headed by Director of Youth NICKY HAMMOND, who is ably assisted by KEVIN DILLON, BRIAN MCDERMOT and BRENDAN RODGERS. McDermot and Rodgers take responsibility for coaching the under 17 team, while Dillon coaches the under 19's.

The Academy is intended to provide quality players to the first team, and already we have seen the likes of Alex Haddow, Darius Henderson, Nathan Tyson, Jamie Ashdown and Adam Lockwood become involved with the first team - there will be many more to follow.

I wonder if the internet will ever go back to how it was in the 1990's with minimal things on the screen; just the essential information.
