Countdown to 100 pts and 100 goals

by Dick Habbin's hairdo » 12 Sep 2015 08:19

Sod it, why not get a little carried away?

The pace, movement and clinical finishing displayed last night has instilled a real sense of this being a magical season. We probably secretly thought that the new look Clarke team would be something special but it would take a few weeks to come together.

So, I wonder what targets SC has set? 100 pts and 100 goals doesn't look unrealistic.

In the remaining games that would mean:

28 wins
7 draws
6 defeats
2.25 goals per game

Giving a season total of 30 wins, 10 draws and 7 defeats.

Dreaming? Probably.

I prefer to stick with the Sir Steve & Sir Brian style of taking one game at a time & seeing how it builds up rather than Nadkins/ Bodgers/ Parjudas style of setting targets.

Having said that, 107 should be the target!

Agreed. And didn't the 107 season start with a defeat in the first game?

Don't want to be negative but we currently have an unrealistic injury count!

We do have good cover but hopefully they won't be needed too often.

If WNG is the target every game, you can't set a higher points target than dropping none.

It kinda seems crazy to say but the 106 season IS beatable. As the OP stated there we can still get 100 points with 7 defeats.

Despite the fact we only lost 2 games in the 106 season, we drew 13. Fair to say it could have been a few points more than 106 if we had converted more of those draws to wins, and we were certainly good enough to do it, not that it really matters of course.

If we can lose 3 or 4 this season and draw less games, say about 7 or 8 then our record could be under threat, by ourselves

Very early days I know but 100 goals is also doable. We were unlucky not to get it in the 106 year and amazingly, we never won by more than 5 goals that season (we never scored 6 in a match), although we did score 5 several times with some scorelines of 5-0, 5-1 and 5-2.

There are worse teams in this league than Ipswich and if we play like that and keep getting better, there's a few more teams that are in for a good hiding when they play us thats for sure...

Although I was delighted with last night's result, I think we should wait until we're sat on top of the league before we start talking about 107. Sometime in October then ;)

This is just plain silly.

But you should remember that most teams (who are in contention for this sort of thing) tail off once they're pretty much up / won the title. We dropped, what, about 13 of our last 36 points? With 5 draws and 1 loss in 12, leaving us picking up 1.9 ish points a game, compared to the astounding 2.4 over the other 3/4s of the season.

This is the main reason that 106 is likely to stand for quite some time, because any team doing well enough to get close to it, is probably going to be winning their division at a canter and ease off. They've got to be well ahead of target to take into account the end of season drop off that'll most likely occur.
