You'd think there'd be some smart incentive structure to motivate players during the whole lenght of their contract, not just when they can negotiate a better deal from Jan... oh.....

I seem to remember John Solako did the same thing in reverse.... great on loan....rubbish as soon as he landed a permanent deal...

Meh. You're all wrong. I always knew Nick Blackman was the world's greatest living striker..... after Nick Bendtner, obvs.

Is anyone seriously trying to say that prior to this season Blackman's performance was anything short of overpriced disappointing mediocrity? If so LOL @ rewriting history.

Good performances now don't mean for two and a half years he wasn't poor.

Who is upset he's playing well? No one.

All this shows is that if you're poor you'll get called on it and if you play well you'll make yourself popular. Well dur.

Na the club will wait until May and then offer him less money, which he'll turn down and move to Brighton for free

Snowball Why is "having an opinion" positive?

In "my opinion" I might think 9/11 was done by aliens, the Pope is a cucumber, and Ian Royal knows loads about football

Not saying it is. But it's better than not having an opinion then crowing about the fact that the people who gave an opinion were wrong.

Where were you when he was shit?

He has never BEEN shit. He's not played well.

That's the problem with the numpties, forgetting that class is permanent, form is temporary.

Then add in the fact that for two seasons the club was in disarray, that Blackman hardly
ever got a proper run in the side, never had a clear-cut role.

Having said all that, Blackman looks far fitter (or is trying harder). He's chasing back
much more, busts a gut in attack (like his goal against Everton)... How much that is
him alone or the influence of SC, it's hard to say.

PS He also has more assists this season than any other RFC player

:?:

If form is temporary and class is permanent, surely that's an argument that he is shit, seeing as his good form has been only recent and so far temporary (a mere 11 matches), compared to his poor form, which covers close to 80 matches.

Here are my comments on Blackman

Feb 3 2013 Blackman did a lot of work, did very well, gets a 7.5 for his cameo.

25 Feb 2013 NOT saying he's ready, but it could well be Blackman… (to replace Pog)

April 2013 Maybe I'm the only one but I thought Blackman did well and shows great promise.

(30 May 2014) Pog, age 30, an established striker, played centrally, is averaging a goal every 236 minutes played (including pens) Blackman, age 24, still developing, often playing wide, is averaging a goal every 263 minutes

(3rd August 2014) Blackman looked very decent. (v a Premiership side)

(18 Sept 2014) Second thoroughly deserved and Blackman might yet make a very good player!

(21 Dec 14) BTW having watched it live and not been sure but watched in slow-mo on TV that WASN’T a terrible miss by Blackman.

(8 Mar 2015) 1-0 (C) Huddersfield Dull game, very nice Blackman goal)

(8 Jul 2015) Nice Fosu low cross sweetly struck home by Blackman

16 Aug 15 Making the point that Blackman is our joint-top scorer and yet still gets slagged.

(16 Aug 2015) IMO, ATM he fully deserves to start games for RFC

(11 Sep 2015) Lovely work by Blackman for the first Sa goal.

7 in 7 now! Whatever my previous misgivings of him were, he is on fire and fair do's to him.

7 in 7 is the best goal run I know of off the top of my head. Does anyone know of a better run from a Reading player?

So that's 3 from this season, 1 from a pre season friendly and 8 from the preceding 80 appearances. That's quite a weak case your presenting there, Snowball.

For the record, I don't think I've ever slagged Blackman off and am pleased to see him doing well but it's madness to suggest that prior to this season he has been anything other than an inconsistant disappointment. From what I've seen the biggest difference this season has been his decision making.

Try reading ALL the post instead of knee-jerking, desperate to score a point.

First, the quote means that "players with class can have periods of poor form, but their class will out".

It doesn't mean "sh!t players can accidentally go on long runs of goal-scoring and assisting form"

Blackman was clearly showing ability, which was why we bought him

Why do I say he has class (apart from this season)?

On Man Utd books
14 Goals and 7 assists for Sheffield United in 33 appearances age 21/22
10 goals and 2 assists for Motherwell in 20 appearances age 19/20
The fact that McDermott wanted him and spent a million to bring him in.
The glimpses of class we have seen even though the side was a mess, he was in and out of the team, and rarely had a fixed position

How is that a weak case? It's my comments on Blackman, saying he could turn into a VG player (two years ago)

What am I supposed to do, comment on him every single game?

The point is not only was I not slagging off, but I was saying he had great potential to come good.

8 comments from 80 appearances and not all all gushing with praise either. Describing a miss as not as bad as you originally thought is scraping the barrel somewhat. A "cameo" suggests 5 or 10 minutes off the bench.

Nice selective quoting Snowy. Most people on here were praising Blackman a year ago and when he first joined so I'm sure they could pull up similar quotes.

You left out several quotes where you justified HRK's selection on the grounds that he's better than Blackman (totally true at the time), when you said "Blackman is too selfish and is inconsistent", when you said he was not a threat to opposition defences, when you grouped him alongside Akpan as "half finished".

You were right to do so. For most of his Reading career, save August 2014 and July-September 2015, Blackman didn't show a shred of talent.

If we refused to ever criticise anyone on the grounds that they might come good some day, we'd have a squad of 500.
