Meeting Footballers

Sure there's loads of anecdotes on here.

I served Lawrie Sanchez at the Reading gate McDs, just after we sacked Burns.

Craig Brown. Repeatedly. Drunkenly.

The Guardian I was holed up in a tense stand off with police in the Rothbury area when Gazza turned up with some chicken and a beer, wanting to have a chat. I was so overawed and nervous, I quite literally shot myself

I exchanged friendly waves with Robert Prosinecki in the Red Star Belgrade trophy room. There was no need for words.

Ditto Gary Lineker as I gazed up at the bbc commentary box at Brammal Lane, following a league cup game penalty shoot out with Areenal.

I've showered with Ian Rush. Also played against him and with Martin Keown as I scored the greatest hat-trick Wembley has ever seen. Also met Franck The Beef and Lawrie Sanchez that day.

Saved a shot from Dennis Wise at Bisham Abbey when I was a kid. Years later he tried to fcuk my girlfriend.

Turned Shaun Goater's kids away from a ride at legoland because they were too small. He took it very well.

Carl Asaba came to one of our presentation evenings when I played for Twyford Comets.

Walked past Ashley Young in the Trafford centre last week.

Served James Harper when I worked at JJB. He was on his phone throughout.
Bumped into Parky and Kevin Watson on the way back from a game once, they were amicable.

Kind of cheating with my refereeing days but one of the most surreal was when I was 4th official at a Blackburn Rovers match and Dagliesh was an absolute gentleman and politely chatted about anything and everything to me throughout the game occasionally getting animated about the match when he needed to.

I've played poker with Lawrie Sanchez on countless occasions, he's a regular at Genting.

Ran Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand from the entrance of Wilmslow station to the platform where we were holding their London train because they were late arriving. Sir Alex wasn't best pleased.

Used to see Jim and Mick up at the Pangbourne Club quite a lot playing snooker. Seemed nice enough.

Had a chat with Trevor Senior about the first game I ever watched back in 1987, He had a better memory of the day than me which isn't surprising as he scored in it.

Chatted to Vinnie Jones once as we left a pub, he was very friendly then some football fans start shouting "Oh look it's the Juggernaut" (from X-Men) and you could see the red mist forming in his eyes. Apparently it kicked off after we left. I'm just glad I didn't ask him about that role!

I used to deliver the Evening Post to Dariusz Wdowczyk when he lived down Westwood Glen in Tilehurst. That's going back almost 22 years now.

Neil Webb lived in the road that horse-shoed behind mine (Foxcombe Drive). It was his Dad's house (Dougie) but he often stayed at weekends even during his time at Forest. Had a kick about on their front lawn once. He was nice enough.

Feeling old.

As a kid, I used to stand outside the players entrance at Elm Park. "met" a few players. Got Robin Friday's autograph, amongst others. Beat that.

Ok so technically a manager but saw Ole Gunnar Solskjær in the St. Davids car park in Cardiff, it was a couple of days after a defeat and I think I said something unlike "unlucky about the game" to which he said "thank you"

Was cray.

More recently driving through central London and saw the reading team going for walkies before the Fullham game beeped the horn furiously to which Michael Hector looked over, all I could muster was a thumbs up
