If you are implying a lack of sunlight then I think you need to look at the way they work! You don't need direct cloudless sunlight to generate a reasonable amount of heat or power.

The second point was probably the more pertinent..........

or play the games during the day when the sun is out.One8Seven1* Considering the amount of use the floodlights get, it always baffles me why clubs don't install solar panels on the roofs of their stadiums. It will save them in the long-run.

royalp-we I actually submitted an intention of tender for the REP boilers, water heaters, heat pumps & solar.
It is always taken in to consideration with every new build and in some cases renewables are required to gain initial planning; but the most costly technologies are usually the first taken off the schedules by a cost consultant.
My company have manufactured & supplied several existing stadia and training complex and will be supplying some new stadia going through planning. But with the Mad Stad itself; with the MEP systems under 20yrs old; it will be a little while before much happens on that side. Won't be too long though.
They could sling some solar PV up on the stadium roof and would get a lot of payback from feed in when the stadium not in use; it would be a pain in the arse to access and remove should the expansion ever take place though.

Maybe it should be part of the planning for the expansion then? I guess they could install panels on the West Stand as I am pretty sure that isn't included in any expansion.
