Hound I suspect a large number of the hits on GR are due to ReadingFC news so I sure they weren't overjoyed with Charles leaving

New job has same parent (trinitymirror) as getreading, so it's more like an internal promotion I'm guessing.
or sideways move.

I wonder what happened to his predecessor?

It might be a sideways move but I am sure that as he is now reporting on the club he supports, in his mind, it is a promotion.

His predecessor in the role he is in now? There wasn't one - this is a new thing from trinitymirror

Jonathan Low is covering and doesn't know if it'll be permanently replaced. Early days but his coverage so far has been streets ahead of where he used to be, not that it's saying much. If it's longer term he could grow into it. But given engagement can be key, he doesn't seem as outgoing as Charles. Thoroughly top bloke. I'll miss him.

That said, Smudger from the Chronicle is a damn good guy and pretty decent, been covering Reading for around 10 years, although as sports editor he has to cover the full breadth of Berkshire activity so can't solely focus on Reading.

If the Chronicle decided to get their shit together it's a huge opportunity for them to steal the biggest bit of GetReading's site clicks... And therefore bring in additional revenue.

Forget the Chronicle, this is our chance to attract readers to Hobnob instead. We'll take it in turns to go along to the press conferences and employ whatshisname from #bushwatch to sit in the bush full time, not just at the end of the transfer windows.

Go along with that. And to top it all we wouldnt have to waste bandwidth in the Reading FC section with the dump "stories" that GetReading invent/report about who other clubs are interested in and and what ManUre, Arsenal, Chavski, Liverpool and Bigclub & Hove Albion etc. are up to.

On the side of the Chronic though, think some still haven't forgiven them for their "reporting" of the club around the time when Cureton was here.

As someone who was only just learning about football and getting into Reading then and was a huge cureton fan - what was written? I'd just be interested to know!

To be honest, wouldn't there already be a proliferation of Arsenal reporters/news sites/magazines and the like? Going to be quite tough to break through all that. Best of luck to him of course, covering his own club.

He had good niche here though.

Another reason to boycot the Chronicle, copy paste below minus the mocked up fictional Reading FC hooligan hoodie wielding a plank of wood

http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/local- ... ge-6883890

Reading Chronicle makes front page apology over football hooliganism story
Paper says the article "fell short of the diligent, responsible reporting that has been our trademark".

A front page apology has been published in today's Reading Chronicle following a story it ran last week about supposed hooliganism at Reading Football Club.

The paper also appeared to link football hooliganism with the Hillsborough disaster in which 96 Liverpool supporters lost their lives in 1989.

Berkshire Media Group, publisher of the Reading Chronicle, has confirmed today editor Maurice O'Brien has been suspended pending an investigation.

Today's Chronicle apology reads: "Last week’s issue of the Reading Chronicle carried a special investigative piece entitled 'The Other Face of Football'.

"This article caused great offence to Reading Football Club, Reading fans and those affected by the dreadful events of Hillsborough in 1989.

"The Chronicle wishes to apologise for any offence caused by the article and assure you that a full investigation into last week’s events is being undertaken.

"We fully accept that Reading Football Club has an exemplary record of policing their ground and Royals fans have a well-deserved reputation for excellent behaviour.

"Unfortunately our article and the front page in particular did not make this clear.

"The Reading Chronicle has a long and proud tradition of serving our readers and advertisers across Reading and West Berkshire.

"This article fell short of the diligent, responsible reporting that has been our trademark down the years."

He was a big fish in a small pond and if he's even an ounce of belief in his ability it was the right decision.

I was pretty surprised Charles left tbh, I know he's an Arsenal fan and this is probably a 'dream job', but the job itself looks a bit flat (I know it's in early stages)

What is Football.London meant to be? I had a quick look round the site and it's the same Trinity Mirror template (getReading) that looks awful and rarely works - filled with adverts, automatically playing videos etc. I'm guessing by the name it's just for London clubs, but it only covers six of them, and what kind of audience are they going for? It's not like there's anyone out there who's only interested in news for London clubs. Arsenal fans don't care about Spurs news, and it's not like Arsenal fans are lacking in news websites and blogs to read and click on, there's hundreds out there and they're all a lot better

The content doesn't look much good either, whilst the Chelsea equivalent hasn't exactly built a large audience outside it's own journalists
https://twitter.com/ArsenalFC_fl/status ... 0453856256
https://twitter.com/ChelseaFC_fl/followers

At least with Reading there was an existing audience in the thousands, a complete lack of competition, and a genuine community feel towards the reporting. Charles was an important part of the club, he was the go-to guy for any breaking news or even live coverage of game, it's not like any other reporters are live tweeting what's happening during matches. Now he's just one of hundreds of sports journalists writing content no one really needs

I guess with his experience he'll be fine career-wise even if this Football.London venture fails to take off, but I know if I was a journalist I'd much rather feel valued/important and that people were reading my work, rather than just churning out uninteresting content on a daily basis for a generic website
