Silver Fox Does anyone really give a shit about anyone other than their own country until the finals? The latching on to the Oirish in '94 was pretty obvious with England's massive qualifail

Funny that there was a riot when we played them in a friendly in 95 - agree it's a very fickle and informal arrangement usually just to give an interest in an otherwise dour tournament.

Hoop Blah
NewCorkSeth Liam Brady being the obvious omission there. A few of those are world class. I wonder what happened?

If most of those players were playing now they'd probably only be at mid-table Premier League sides. With all the Premier League money floating around our club sides have the pick of pretty much any player in world football so I don't think the likes of Moran, McGrath, Townsend, Houghton, Aldridge or Quinn would be playing for a top 4 side.

Not sure about McGrath not being up to standard. Is Cahill really any better? Jones? Stones?
I think a lot of clubs would kill for a sober McGrath in their team right now.

clearly, that is bollox....Team Spirit only exists when things are going well so you tolerate the things that cnut you off.

I feel bad for Wales. I feel like they have a lot of young players coming through so Coleman should really stick with it. Might be quite a desirable job for some managers.

I don't want Coleman thanks. I don't think he overachieved at the Euros and can see him bombing in the league.

Will England be in Russia long enough to wipe it in Wales' face?

Results are better when your best players are playing shocker. Our qualification campaign would look interesting without Kane's goals.

Someone would have come along for England. Welbeck loves scoring for England right?
Vardy maybe? Dare I say it.. Peter Crouch...

England have a bucket load of players capable of stepping up.

One has to think that if that were the case we wouldn't so often disappoint.

One has to think that if that were the case we wouldn't so often disappoint.

One might speculate that England often perform exactly to their standard and that the unrealistic expectations of a large portion of their fans allow the media to crucify any manager to the point of regime change thus stopping any hopes of sustainable progress.

One might further argue that the quality in the national pool has little bearing on how the team performs as only 23 players can actually be selected. The difference between Rose, Bertrand, Cresswell and Shaw, for example, is not so different that England would win or lose based on 1 persons absence.
The majority of positions in the England national pool has a similar depth of quality. Patience and lowered expectations is certainly what England are lacking. Tactics might be another...

why was Kane so poor v Iceland last summer? He is a class act and at last is starting to score for England. Hope this is only the beginning.

My theory.

Spurs completely ran out of steam at the end of that season after losing out to Leicester. They didn't have the squad to rest players regularly so their main players were run into the ground to some degree. Also applied to Walker, Rose, Dier and Dele Alli as well. In hindsight Hodgson's decision to build half of this side around these players was a poor one.

Lots of people were saying he was completely knackered. I'm not sure I really buy that as an excuse for an international footballer, but he did come back on fire after having that little injury break last season, and hasn't let up since.

Also, it didn't help that he was on fcuking corners

Yeah my point really was that it wasn't just him.

You'd know better than me as a Spurs follower but they really did finish that season totally knackered and on a huge downer. Same applied to a lesser degree with Liverpool I suppose in losing out in the Europa League Final. Those players were also mostly pretty young and I don't think they had the maturity at that stage to deal with it. Those two teams made up a fair chunk of England's team in that tournament.

If Harry Kane's is so good when he's had a rest how come he never scores in August?
