England have a bucket load of players capable of stepping up.
One has to think that if that were the case we wouldn't so often disappoint.
One might speculate that England often perform exactly to their standard and that the unrealistic expectations of a large portion of their fans allow the media to crucify any manager to the point of regime change thus stopping any hopes of sustainable progress.
One might further argue that the quality in the national pool has little bearing on how the team performs as only 23 players can actually be selected. The difference between Rose, Bertrand, Cresswell and Shaw, for example, is not so different that England would win or lose based on 1 persons absence.
The majority of positions in the England national pool has a similar depth of quality. Patience and lowered expectations is certainly what England are lacking. Tactics might be another...
