Royal Rother When I’ve seen SSS in recent years they have always had some talented players but boy are they an unlikeable team.

My dad referees them reasonably regularly. Says they are by far the hardest team to referee in over 30 years of refereeing.

Yep, not surprised - when I've seen them they are CONSTANTLY on at the ref, getting in his face and also celebrating in opposition faces when they score.

I used to play against them a fair bit when I was younger, they'd often play the race card too. In an ideal world they should be praised as a club for promoting the involvement of young Asians in football but they have very much have a them and us mentality in my experience.

Thu 6th April - results -
SLP-South
Bracknell Town 3-2 Met Police - topsy turvy game here - with 'Robins' scoring on the stroke of HT (Esprit)
Met Pol levelling on 67' - hosts back in front 10' later. Visitors grabbed a late equalizer on 88' but Joseph Grant was on hand to drive in a winner on 90' and lift Town above Truro into 2nd place. They are now 7 points behind W-s-M with 6 games left - travel to Supermarine on Saturday whilst W-s-M visit lowly Hartley.

...most of the action elsewhere was in the CCL -- Flackwell lost 1-2 up at North Greenford
- a flash storm (hail and rain?) wiped out Virginia Water's re-scheduled game at Stag Meadow - home to Oxhey - conditions also led to the Southern Combination game at Chessington to be called off very late too...
- whereas further west we seemed to be spared the worst of it... or got it earlier and less intense - were reportedly hailstorms in Thatcham around 17:00 ??

Bagshot were hammered 0-9 [NINE] at Krooner by Eversley - Bedfont and Sandhurst shared a 2-2 at the Orchard.

I was intending to go to the VW game but fortunately checked before setting off - more on the 'just-in-case' cautious line of Oxhey possibly not travelling?
- during such a current fixture pile-up with Tue/Wed/Thu games scheduled - there can often be late 'cry-offs' though admittedly not often at STEP05 and particularly if there is something riding on the game i.e. Oxhey fighting to get off the bottom.

My 'fall-back fixture' was a trundle cross-City 8) to Rivermoor/Scours
CCL-1 Woodley Utd 4-2 Brook House - I was a tad concerned about the weather here - set out in clear blue sky but it started raining as I arrived and the Ref appeared to delay start until nearer 20:00h to let the worst of it pass - though that might also have been due to Woodley's visitors Brook House possibly starting short-handed - I was waiting around the Bar area for my 'deluxe-Burger' and couldn't see all of the action for the first 10' or so - and didn't think to count the players.

...is also the next day of the organized 'Holiday Hop' - focusing across 3 days of the w/e on the Hellenic Leagues
- so with staggered KOs on each day to allow the Anorak-clad entourage to move venues - games are scheduled at :

11:00 Mortimer v Chinnor
14:15 Taplow v Chalfont Wasps &
17:30 Woodcote v Fc Beaconsfield

Sunday's games are also fairly local at Watlington Abingdon Utd and Clanfield 85
Monday sees the whole shebang shift further west in the Hellenic, to Shipston Excelsior 11:30 and then it gets flakey - not sure which of the many 15:00 KOs, have been picked, if any and there is an early evening game. 18:30 @ Hartpury up beyond Gloucester has been scheduled but I also read (briefly) that there might have been some re-think for that day.........
EDIT The middle game on Monday is/was apparently Div One Southam v Littleton - hardly in keeping with the 'western' slant on the 3rd day - but the KO time has now reverted to 15:00 from 15:30 : the third game of the day which was Div One Hartpury Uni v Cheltenham Sarries, has now been removed from the formal itinerary, as there are so few trains running after the match.

- Sadly a Hop 'event' last w/e's was rather washed out - due to be around the Yeovil and District league but most games were in doubt so they decided to scrapped the Hop altogether a day or so in advance.

I think some doughty souls planning these 'tours', organize programmes and badge sales at all games across the 3 days - possibly even getting involved in other logistics: such as transport and accommodation for the further flung venues - it's a regular thing up and down the country.
I think the clubs welcome the extra income that is likely to follow the large crowds - usually in the low hundreds.

- Personally I tend to shun them [not just cos I'm an anti-Social ol' FocCer these days  ] - as for me they are akin to Wildlife in a Zoo - you don't get much of a chance to discover the club in it's 'natural' habitat.
e.g. can't engage the 95 yr old wrinkled retainer 8) manning the gate or the tea urn or raffle draw - who played for the club between the wars aged 11
"......but I was tall for my age and wore a cap" and has been involved ever since.

However - Since I always get evicted mid-AM for this particular day of the year, for a very similar type of specially arranged 'annual event ' chez FoCcers' but involving my families' hobby "The Invasion of The Bellringers" :?
....... needs must perhaps here.....so ...
I might try and sneak close enough to observe the Mortimer game, before travelling off somewhere to a new ground for a 15:00.

In past 'seasons' I've managed to set this day aside, for a longer trip down to the West Country, to tick off the the more remote Southern or Western League clubs .... but the b&ggers aren't playing on Sat this year  and I didn't fancy much heading up to the North Mids (Notts/Lincs/Leics etc)

Brackley had appealed to fans to help support the team for an end of season push. Nearly 900 there yesterday but that was the only good news.

I guess it’s no surprise when an old manager or player gets some sort of payback. And Kevin Wilkin, now manager of Telford, ensured his already relegated team won 2 -1. Plenty of possession for Brackley but no end result.

And plenty of people cheering for Kevin Wilkin to be brought back. At the end of the game things turned a bit nasty and there was some fighting in the clubhouse. Probably just one bloke mouthing off who started it, but I don’t watch this sort of football for that nonsense.

I’ve seen it reported that the club isn’t the same any more. Loads of new players brought in who are no better than those they’ve replaced. Roger Johnson is pretty high profile as an ex player, especially for this league, but little managerial experience.

It’s all a bit depressing. And to think I watch this so I can forget about Readings woes!

I saw Bracknell win at Swindon Supermarine. They really had to hang on, complete backs to the wall stuff, for the final 10-15 minutes. The amount of games they are playing is probably telling now.

My 2nd choice was the derby at Andover. I was quite pleased to have opted for the Bracknell game, until I saw Andover New Street had won 5-4 with a last minute goal, after being 0-4 down. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

Walton give Basingstoke a chink of light slipping up with a goalless draw yesterday.

That 5:1 reverse really their undoing where as a one goal defeat would have put it almost back in their hands.

Sets up a fascinating finish but Walton on paper have the easiest of games and expect them to score more than Basingstoke over final 3 games.

...and with a crowd at New St of over 300 [332] - hadn't realised the extent of the turn-around.
Great to see the club doing so well and most-recently rising above their near rivals - though Town are strictly speaking a Phoenix-club and are still re-building somewhat at the Portway - were 'demoted' for refusing promotion out of the Wessex Premier league as recently as 18/19.
ANS were perennially Wessex League whipping boys thru the 00's and 10's but they've really come on a lot in the last few years - even getting promotion pre-Vids but dropping back immediately.
They've done a lot of work recently at Foxcotte - but it's a god-awfully difficult ground to find if you've not been before.
I tried on my very first visit many years back, to get to it from Andover ring-road - not sure the signage has improved but it's nigh on impossible unless your a local I'd imagine - didn't get there til close to Half-Time!
- now I've been a few times - the best approach from the north is to head off the main road down (A343) and over Charlton Down before you get to Enham Alamein.

...will probably go for a 'double' but won't put in the extra effort to try and pick up new ticks/go a long distance on a Bank Holiday - mostly due to extra grief holiday traffic and roadworks may bring?

Off to Maidenhead tomorrow. Should be a good game, Torquay will have targeted this one to get something from I reckon. Expecting a pretty exciting game.

Lots of wet stuff about - some CCL AM games called OFF
I'm at a fairly soggy but surprisingly firm 8) Summerleaze where Holyport are making Reading City work hard - currently 1-1 approaching ht.
Think I've read games off later at: Hanworth, Ashford (Mx), Wealdstone and Farnboro - may have to seek out a 3G option for match ii) ??

Will try and update on the hoof ... if I spot more from the preview....
Edit: no further pponements that I know about yet for 15:00 games ... other than Hanwell

Holyport W3-2 so Ascot have both hands on the title now- having won 5-0 @ Wallingford
EDIT - need 1 pt from 5 games or Egham to slip in one of their next 6.
Egham @ VW (Stag Meadow) tomorrow night (Tue)

What a free kick!!!

Also didn't realise Bostock still played football, seems like he's been around for 20 years
