Greatwesternline Whilst the EFL ruling was the 2021-22 season, with half the measures suspended until 2022-23 season, the suspended element was enforced.

There is this nugget with the ruling:

Further action
11. The EFL may re-open any investigation and commence any disciplinary proceedings against the Club
if any information submitted by the Club turns out to be inaccurate, or if there is any failure of compliance
on the part of the Club with the terms with this Agreed Decision.

I would say anyone associated with the club should not have promised fans that there was no way we could possibly be under sanctions in further years.

Annoyingly the EFL website doesnt have a new ruling from when they enforced the suspended element of the sanction. That would have been instructive.

I think the only way they could is if they were absolutely sure they wouldn't be. Once the 6 points came off this season, they were confident that the transfer embargo would "effectively end" this summer, so they must have been sure this wasn't the case. If not and we end up with restrictions past this summer, a lot of people at the club will be caught with egg on their faces, that's for sure.

In all the kerfuffle, is it not the case that the longer it goes on that Wilder is not appointed by a club other than Reading, then the more likely he is to be coming to Reading?

from Bowens statement back in april

We are very confident that this six-point penalty is the last of our medicine and we will now be allowed to come out of the embargo and be able to trade again in the summer. We must still be sensible, we will still be given a budget to stick to, but we have earned their trust us to operate wisely. Last summer we had so many different hoops to jump through to be able to get anything done at all. This summer will be different."

'We are very confident' doesn't say this is definitely the end of restrictions just we are very confident it is. so there is scope that this isn't over yet.

On Strings How could the EFL do that? The embargo ends June 30th. There is no FFP limitations in L1. If they feel we breached something last season that is yet to come to light, they will have had to punish us against last season, surely.

How do you know the embargo ended on 30 June? How do you know there aren't FFP limitations in League 1?

Have you read the EFL's judgement handed out? Have you read the EFL's FFP policies and rule book?

If you are relying on a well meaning fan's interpretation of them, or Bowen's interpretation of them, then those people are not reliable sources.

Bowen has already admitted misleading people the season before last.

The only mention of 30th June in the agreement pertains to wages and that new signings cannot be paid more than the agreed level if signed prior to that date. Any signing made after that date, according to the current agreement, does not have to - however, the agreement does not state an end date to when we can pay fees/compensation/agent fees.

Given the above, there could be an issue with agreeing deals with free agents before 1st July due to the wage restrictions.

The published agreement following the application of the suspended penalty stated that the club were selling something to ensure we met the FFP threshold - I guess it is totally possible that that deal has not yet concluded or the EFL is awaiting proof that it has done before agreeing to release the brake. If that sale is not concluded, we will breach FFP again, and be subject to a further penalty.

Have you got a link to the agreement? I can't find it on EFL.

So - the EFL tweeted on 4 April that:

Reading will also be required to agree a new budget with the CFRU for the 2023/24 season to ensure compliance with regulations.

The details of this have not been made publicly available. But, as we are no longer in the Championship it wouldn't make sense to me that they are controlling our spending with regards to the P&S limits that no longer apply to us. At most, they would be asking for a budget that meets the L1 requirements, along with evidence that we are able to meet that budget. Though, maybe this process is dragging on and the owners are just frustrated.

Now that we are fully in the era of 'Pep' and 'Ange', would anyone mind if I start referring to Wilder only as 'Chris'?

He is reliable unlike our pathetic local wannabe journalists, I fully believe him.

tidus_mi2 Sounds like the EFL are trying to restrict our spending even though it would totally contradict League One rules.

I suspect the ELF knows it's own rules better than hobnob.

I'm just basing this off what Alan Nixon was tweeting last night, who I see as one of the more reliable people, alongside ITK Eddie.

oxf*rd hell.

I’m now hoping that Nathan Jones will be appointed our manager. Wilder was my first choice but I think Jones would actually be a better fit. He is used to working on a tight budget and as fans we have lower expectations than Stoke and Southampton.

It'll be Cotterill. How depressing would that be.

I will never forgive him for scoring against us on the final day of the 93/94 season down in Bournemouth on the Friday night.

Never forget, never forgive.

He's shit. What's he ever achieved? Just one promotion with Bristol City in 2015. Sacked by a club smaller than us recently as well.
