paultheroyal How dire has the local media been about this. The "written press" i get, because we dont have one, but considering Dellor and Williams, majority of their work is fuelled by Reading FC, silence is deafening. Most bizarre.

Will be this week as all they'll give a snot about is horses and then next week the utter non-event that is Henley. They'll only mention Reading if a new "manager" is appointed. You'd think the close season would be an ideal time to get a few interviews together for the podcast and sit down and look at the rumours and cr@pola around at the moment and set out what's actually what but then it's the BBC so the last thing they do is actual journalism.

Agreed - but it is so poor. I know they have "other tasks to do" - but even a simple tweet of acknowledgement, from someone who has a voice, and a link to club and fans be something. But not a thing. Odd.

Yep, in amongst the piles of horse shyte from Ascot all we got in the morning sports bulletin today was jokes about how they wouldn't need to worry about getting out of the SCL Stadium car park next season.

Sutekh Only “read” the Chronic these days, long since had enough of the utter cr@p that masquerades as the once great evening post - especially detest the meaningless click bait headlines leading to stories that say precisely nothing.

I will always remember his webchats. They were the absolute epitome of a pointless waste of time.

Dunno AE probably outdoes them

You have to consider:
1. No one at the club is going to be giving interviews right now.
2. If anyone publishes anything based on rumour/off the record conversation they risk being sued.
3. The club will no doubt remove cooperation with anyone who goes 'negative'. And that's the end of their career reporting on RFC and puts the newspaper/website at risk.

Yes, seems like a decent chap. He seems to have ridden the wave of local newspaper cutbacks and fallen off rather unluckily on several occasions.

This needs an update as these guys really aren't adding any value at all now and it appears the club is starting to scale back press conferences with Noel providing pre match updates on the official website and youtube channel.

They provide no detailed match reports or any post match analysis which I get from the excellent Tilehurst End if I'm not at the game.

They provide no rumours/updates on players we are after unless its been on X for ages and reported by the national press. Certainly they are never first off the mark with anything and we rely on our excellent HNA people and a couple of others on X (thanks again guys)

If reporting on RFC is their full time job then quite honestly they are stealing a living.

Not sure why the chronicle is still linked to the menu page. It is hidden behind a firewall still soaked in yesterdays chip grease.

I have been now been blocked by James earnshaw and andy Preston for calling them out over the last couple of weeks. They are oxf*rd useless and clearly can’t take criticism. In fact I’m going to post on x again and give them some more shit.

I agree the local journos need to seriously up their game - have we had a decent one since Charles Watts?

Rob Couhig has been very clear that he will fire anybody that leaks information though, so maybe they are towing the line a little bit. Don't want to piss off the club owner and get frozen out.

What’s the point? Just makes you look unpleasant

It’s pretty clear everything being funnelled through the official channels now for better or worse. Tbh suspect the chron etc will give up trying to cover soon

There was that young guy who was here for a season, then went to Southampton iirc. Can't remember his name, but he was really good

Yep Benjy someone?? Yep he was good - that's the thing the decent ones quickly get better gigs like Charles Watts too. All shows that good journos can get contacts/get stuff out of the club...

The offensive Thai stereotype twatter account already did that ages ago.

Unfortunately, I don't think local journalism has either the money or resources to have full time sports reporters that cover all clubs any more.

It's a damning indictment of local journalism as a whole that freelancers can do a better job of it.

If only Earnshaw had told us Matt Ritchie and Devante Cole were done deals, would they have earned your respect then?

These days people on YT can do just as good a job, if not better, than journos at any level, esp. if they have a few contacts. That’s what Reading currently lack, a Brogue on YT doing a daily/weekly round up on club doings
